I live in the suburbs of Denver, and this attitude is the norm rather than the exception.

"...my child in trouble? Well, it must be somebody elses fault!"

That is my perception of parents who have kids in trouble. They aren't paying attention, then when the kid starts getting into trouble they minimize it, make excuses for it and don't get the kid the counseling or advice he needs. Yes, Kliebold's parents must be given the largest share of the blame, IMHO.

But, for his mother to opine that she can't forgive herself, yet say she bears no responsibility for the deaths of other kids is beyond my comprehension. She is not coming clean.

I'm simply amazed at the number of young people here who think parents bear so little responsibility. To say I'm shocked would be an understatement. I demonstrates a wholesale lack of understanding of the role of parents in society. Or, perhaps I should say, what the role of parents should be.

i dont think she bears any responsibility. i havnt seen/heard any evidence that would indicate she should have known what her son was capable of doing.

I used to live in the now infamous Littleton. I now live in the midwest. It is the prevalent thought everywhere. We have liberalism to thank for it. Even many conservatives like to glom onto it.

I'm a little shocked at Chess9 going off on a personal responsibility rant ;)

I never said I don't believe in personal responsibility, particularly when it comes to raising your kids. But personal responsibility is the main building block of those bloody LIBERTARIANS, who are so far out that they can't be seen from PLUTO. :) So, BEWARE!!!

JosphII:

Her son was a one man vandalism crime spree. He was doing horribly in school. Both his parents worked and neither, apparently, paid much attention to him. He was giving off warning signs of a child in trouble. Sheezh, wait 'til you have kids....

Anyway, why do you think all the other parents think she's a donkey's rear end?

JosphII:

Your kid won't have a neon sign on him saying "I'm going to kill someone." Parents need to be aware of changes in their children. DK was skipping a lot of school and went from Bs and Cs to Fs and Ds. No, that doesn't scream murderer, but it does suggest the parents need to PHONE FVSKING HOME. When a parent misses the warning signs or sees them and does nothing, the community has good reason to be outraged.

You obviously have no children and NO CLUE.

Sheezh....
