The Ford Fusion....

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/17/ford-fusion-car-of-the-year-motor-trend/#continued

The car is certainly competent...and the Hybrid version is definitely a big step for Ford...but I'm not sure if the car deserves COTY. There may be a little hometown bias in there...but either way it is a solid car and this is good news for Ford... Hopefully this will only improve sales and continue to help Ford put out highly competitive cars.

Damn, I KNEW I should have invested in Ford when they were at $1.71 a share!

Oh well, they made the GT-R COTY last year so I'm happy anyway :)

I like how the Mazda 6 wasn't even a contender but is the same car as the Fusion. congrats mazda on your win.

The good and bad about what MT does is require a new or significantly redesigned vehicle.

And yeah, I wish I grabbed some Ford stock when it tanked :(

Well, I think the market agrees with Motor Trend. I read an article a few months ago showing the sales drop between 2008 and 2009 for the 10 top-selling vehicles in the U.S. Most dropped around 25%, but the Fusion dropped something like 2%.

I don't think I've heard a bad thing about the Fusion yet - I'm not surprised.

It has definitely been a bright spot for Ford... and I think it is merited.

I agree...most comments are positive. I'm not sold on the chromed out styling...and I recently saw one with body colored grill...and it still didn't make it look better. There should have been some middle ground..too much chrome on the front for me.

Ah well that explains that bit. Not very fair though. If I had to choose between the Mazda and Ford I would take the Mazda. I don't care for the Fusions looks (reminds me of a razor by the same name).

Yeah I don't like the chrome but I like everything else about the car. I hope it continues to be a winner for Ford.

Congrats to Ford. Now that they've caught up somewhat in quality, they can start gunning for other manufacturers in numbers.

For me, it's not the amount of chrome; the grille itself is just ugly. IMO, they should just play it safe and do a mesh grille. Just about every car has it, but as long as you don't add in Bentley style headlights, it looks good and it is a safe choice.

I agree with you overall. The grill is a bit much for my liking..whether chrome or body colored. I know Ford is going for something that stands out...but it is just too much and looks overwrought to me. The Taurus Grill looks a lot better to me as does the European Mondeo's grill. I hope they continue in that tradition. Iironically the Taurus grill also has a "razor" look to it..just an electric razor.

the 2010 redesign is def the best looking ford in a while

I really think the Mustang redesign is better. I really like the look of the current mustang. Not so keen on the rest of the lineup. the Taurus is so-so on the outside (I think the inside looks good) and I actually thought the F150 looked better the last iteration...they fugged it up this time around...with again, too much chrome. The Focus is ugly as all get out to me...and I don't even consider the Ranger a part of the lineup. The escape is fine...if not exceedingly boring..and could lose the excessive chrome as well.

Yeah, the only car in the lineup that I actually like the look of is the Mustang...and I definitely think they did a great job with the evolutionary re-design...and the interior is fantastic.

I like styling of new Ford except, well, the Ford blue oval. :sneaky: I'd all over the Ford if they got rid of that emblem, which they will never for sure. (And that's why I love Mustang. No blue oval = Winner!)

Interesting...I'm surprised the emblem annoys you so much...I've never thought twice about the emblem...doesn't seem any worse than any other car emblem...kinda stupid when they oversize it on some of the trucks...but otherwise I don't see the problem with it.

I own a 2010 Fusion Hybrid I can agree that it is a merited award. It is a great car, everyone I know likes it and I get questions about it all the time, especially because of the hybrid badge on the side.

If it's reliable in the long term (as good as it's short term is/has been), it certainly deserves the award.

Many months ago I told you to buy F...
:)
Anyway, they are doing few things right recently. I can recommend Fusion to other people without getting embarrassed..

Why am I not shocked that Louissss couldn't resist a troll attempt?

Anyway - it's a great car. In fact, they've sold as much in the first 10 months of the year as they did all of last year.

The quality is better than the Japanese competitors (sorry Louisss) in both short term and long term, the reviews are better (sorry Louissss), the gas mileage is better (sorry Louissss), and... well... it's just a better car.

I'm waiting for the bobber to bounce before I set the hook....
