And the most dangerous place to live under US control is?

Washington DC is higher on that list. 24 compared to 22.5. Also, did you forget to look at the US virgin islands? Yikes! That's over double Puerto Rico.

Wow. Every one of the southern states of the Old Confederacy, or as its known today, the Republican base, has a higher rate than New York State.

My state is tied for second best. And we are better than Canada.
Suck it Canukistan.

I actually was not expecting DC, but then it's looking at states as a whole. If you looked at individual cities I'm pretty sure Baltimore tops the list?

Heh. That reminds me when I went there for a conference many years ago.

Me, to taxi driver at 8 pm: I want to go to Chinatown
Taxi driver: Really? Are you sure?
Me: Yes, I feel like getting some Chinese food tonite.
Taxi driver: Uh ok.

First of all that Chinatown sucked in terms of selection of restaurants, and at least the place I chose sucked as well. Second, there were some big dudes busting each others heads just down the street of where the taxi driver let me off.

Being a stupid Canadian tourist, I didn't realize just how rough DC was. I found out later that Chinatown at the time was one of the rougher areas, esp. at night, albeit nowhere near as rough as many other areas in DC.

Heh, I'm going to Chinatown in a few hours. To go to a game though, not eat Chinese.

The Republicans are causing all those murders?

My mother was born in DC and lived in the South, US Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. Stay out of her wake.

yeah, heard the two day series on NRP yesterday and today, apparently the % of people killed in drug related violence is more than Mexico..

hey banana-head, do you see any geographical pattern, like close to sea port, shit-holes or things like that?
Also to you pointless point, New Mexico was not part of the civil war and DC is the most liberal part of US; also IL, liberal orgy ground with sanctuary city... please think for a moment next time before you make an impulse post.

Not really surprised. Hasn't PR always has a high crime rate? IIRC there's also a ton of corruption in the police force.

Quick analysis showed no (or weak) correlation between how Republican or Democratic a state was and the murder rate. If I were forced to provide an answer, I'd say there was slight correlation to a state being more Democratic and fewer murders.

Where I used state-wide races to measure the partisan lean of a state. One point if the state voted for a Democrat for president, 1 point if the governor is a Democrat, and .5 points for each Democratic Senator. (DC and Puerto Rico were ignored as they aren't states)

However, there WAS a noticeable difference between states of the Confederacy (almost all of which are heavy Republican states) and the rest of America, as techs noted.

States of the Confederacy? Dude, what year do you think it is?

And...do you think, Soviet Gulag was that bad too?

Anyone is FREE: to live or to die...
Is a death in so-called "Free Society better that a death behind "Iron Curtain"?

Sadaam killed over 100,000 own people...Here comes republican Jorge Boosh and kills another more than 100,000 iraqis...Republicans? "We didn't do nothing wrong"....
