Didn't you hear? It doesn't apply to the Yankees. They paid 10 million so they could trade whenever they want with whatever team.

July 31 is the "no waivers" deadline...if both players clear waivers then the actual deadline is Aug. 31.

Yes, Nelson is better.

My guess is that it has to do with Nelson and his recent tirade against M's management. Not that I blame him.

This is how it's going to turn out.

AL West - Seattle Mariners
Central - White Sox
East - Red Sox
Wild Card - Athletics

NL West - Giants
Central - Astros
East - Braves
Wild Card - Phillies

Boston will sweep all the teams thanks to Trot Nixon's .500 batting average throughout the playoffs.

Ever since they made that trade for Randy Johnson and the 3 young prospects they've done good. They cleaned house but yet actually did something in the playoffs after getting rid of all their all stars. So I guess their GM knows what their doing...

Benitez is a wreck in the postseason, but his stuff is probably better than Nelson's.

Maybe the Mariners already know they won't make the postseason, so that's a moot point for Benitez. :p At least they'll pocket the cash.

Probably. Nelson: "Management doesn't trade for anyone."
Management: "Bye bye Nelson."

Too bad Benitez sucks :(

Shiggy will remain the closer (he is right now), and he deserves it. .70 ERA. Heh. :D

Kazu is supposedly coming back, but forgive me if I don't have much faith until he actually shows he's recovered. His fastball is topping out at 90mph right now. :p

Too bad Red Sox didn't end up getting Bret Boone during last off-season. :(

Imagine this lineup

Damon - Crappy leadoff hitter
Mueller
Boone
Garciaparra
Ramirez
Ortiz
Nixon
Millar
Varitek

DAMN! :Q

If Suppan doesn't shape up, the Sox are SOL anyway. Pedro is the only pitcher other than Suppan with an ERA below 4 right now, right?

Sweet, b/c I just dropped Benetiz in one of my fantasy leauges and I have shiggy in two of them. If Benetiz starts taking any saves away from him I'm going to be upset.....always thinking fantasy baseball here. And like you said he deserves to be the closer for now until he messes up.

If pat want to get rid of nellie, at least send him to detroit tigers.
To the yankees? And we get Armando, LOL, what a ripoff.
Pat Gillick just wasted our fine first half.

Why the heck did we trade for Suppan? WHY!?!?

We need a young starter, not a journey man having a good season! He won't hold together during pressure games in playoffs.

We should of added a young pitcher, possibly Javier Vasquez or make Cubs give up Mark Prior. :D

As a Mets fan I'm glad to see Benitez get traded again. I'd like as many people as possible to experience the feeling of him giving up yet another late inning home run. Share the wealth :D

I'm still concerned that we have Byung Hyun Kim as our closer. He is vulnerable in the playoffs, and Williamson doesn't have good command of the strike zone and hasn't been pressured enough in the postseason.

We need a decent closer, too bad we couldn't get Nelson.

You should be lucky that you haven't experienced any Ayala, timlin, slocumb *shudders*, Jose Mesa, and Kaz late inning moronic performance.
The Mariners + closer = disaster.
I just hope Shiggy won't get contaminated by this disease.
