And the Democrats claim the GOP are racist hicks....

So Trent Lott went out of his way to not only support Strom Thurmond, but specifically mentioned the year Thurmond ran for POTUS on a segregationist platform; 1948. Yet somehow Lott's endorsement of Thurmond has nothing to do with race because he didn't "mention" it? Is it at the very least significantly tied to race, CAD?

It's what he does. Sad, huh?

DON'T FEED THE TROLLS.

Getting back on topic, I see now that many within the GOP are calling for Reid's departure as Maj Leader, likening this to Trent Lott's ouster in 2002.

Huh? Lott was commending Strom with obvious racist sentiments, while Reid was making a factual observation that can't really be argued with. Nevermind that Obama himself has stated it's no big deal, let's move on. I recall in the rush to smooth over the 'you lie!' debacle the other month, a republican figure stated that once an apology has been accepted by the PoTUS, no one else has claim on any grievance. Well?!

404, Parity not found. Sorry GOP, that dog don't hunt. You guys will actually have to win elections again to mix up the Senate.
of course, Reid won't resign and of course, Barack Obama is going to publicly accept the apology of the senate majority leader no matter how he may feel personally.

I think the resignation call is a smart move politically, though... it's in the GOP's best interest to keep this story alive and in the headlines for as long as possible to damage Reid's reputation on the national stage as they try to oust him in November. he's already facing a pretty tough fight and the news that he's a giant racist can't possibly help a democrat.

GOP should really watch its step.

NAACP is backing Reid.

Who in the GOP has a good solid voting record when it comes to issues important to the black community? Whomever that person is, can go rail against Reid for his comments.

Otherwise, it is very comical watching WHITE GOP leaders scream racism and the black community ain't buying it.

What does Rove say about this issue? I'd be surprised if he is playing in this game.

where did he say he is racist?

talking about the "negro dialect" seems pretty racist to me.

actually that sounds like comments made from an 80 year old man.

when did he ever act like a racist? where is your data to support your conclusion that Reid is racist?

is it only that ONE comment? have you looked at Reid's voting record? Maybe sometime in the past he has let slip other comments?

Do you normally use this thought process to make up your mind on matters?

clearly I have no intimate personal knowledge of Harry Reid and have no idea what he's like in person.

but this story portrays him as someone out of touch with societal conventions and probably a little bit racist.

Ah, the great white hope for the Gop this season is crying racism...

/I'd laugh if it wasn't so pathetic.....
//oh, what the hell, I'll laugh away....

I'm not asking you for Harry Reid's waist size or his toothpaste preference. Im not asking you for personal intimate knowledge of Harry Reid.

I'm asking you if Harry Reid votes against black interests? maybe Harry Reid said he is racist? Maybe he said he supports segregation ala Trent Lott? maybe there is other data to support your conclusion that he is a "GIANT RACIST" ???

the story portrays him any which way the media wants to portay him in order to benefit the MEDIA.

Think about it...

I can't believe the GOP wants to go down this road...white men screaming racism is freaking hilarious. Even Al Sharpton, a man that can't WAIT to hollar "racism" isn't saying Reid is racist, doesn't that clue you guys in???

From Poltico:

Top Democrats tell POLITICO that they have no doubt that that Reid, a former amateur boxer, will keep fighting and survive in his leadership job. Indeed, Reid’s racial flub is already turning out differently than the one made by Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-Miss.) in 2002. When Lott made a nostalgic remark about the segregationist Dixiecrat presidential run of Strom Thurmond, his Republican allies quickly abandoned him. Democrats are sticking by Reid so far.

Sen. Charles Schumer of New York, the No. 3 Democrat, is said to be quite certain Reid would ride out the controversy, particularly because Obama and the Rev. Al Sharpton had accepted Reid's apology and issued effusively supportive statements.

"It's not a shock to any Democrat that Harry Reid is not the best spokesman," said an aide to a top Democratic senator. "But he made a heartfelt apology."

Now I am a democrat, but recently voted Republican for governor, so I am not bound to being biased. As for what Reid said, it was distasteful, but is in no way comparable to what Lott said. Reid gave a description and while the "no negro dialect" is poor taste is not overtly racist. What Lott said was purely racist. He said the country would have been better off if Thruman, a racist who ran on segregation, had been elected President. That is siginificantly different than what Reid said. Now Reid as a politician is another story......

Fact of the matter is the rabidly power hungry far Left managed to screw it up last time and put the Republicans in power for 8 years. They seem hell bent to do it again.

Moderate Democrats, a term lost to the pages of history.

There are more moderate democrats (remember the people voting against their party on health care?) than moderate republicans so what is your point?

I love how when you hacks can't debate the points of an issue, you manufacture some 'facts,' throw in a little revisionist history, and then garnish it all with some current day ignorance - and that, somehow, is supposed to equate something insightful.

At least it serves as humor! 😉 Thanks loser.

Reid has been mentored by Rober Byrd for many years so his comments shouldn't be a surprise.

The Democratic party should just declare Reid an honorary black man so this type of issue doesn't offend anyone.

Lol. I'm reminded of the recent fiasco over the Aussie KFC commercial with a white dude serving fried chicken to a croud of Jamaicans.

...Wait, No. That "protest" was actually halfway honest, but totally obtuse.

This, is just blinding amonts of raw cynicism... Reid is a fossil who needs to go somewhere and fully petrify. He's not a racist; he's just an old, obtuse jackass, who needs to be un-elected for a lot of reasons. But of course, the opposition trips all over its dick in order to make political hay. You're probably no freakin' different than your average Moonbat that waves the bloody racism shirt, on behalf of people darker than themselves, in order to look More Liberal Than You.

Now we've got a bunch of Cons waving the same tired old bloody shirt, but pandering all the same, for the same old thing, their own self-aggrandizement and nothing else.

At least I can say this much about the Smug White Liberals... "great person" is not a household word among that crowd when the microphones go dead.

I grew up among you people out in the "heartland"... I know who you are. Once you're all done with your display of faux outrage over this "incident", it's right back to your President Spear-Chucker jokes amongst yourselves.

If you don't like the Status Quo, then win a freakin' election. Now's your chance!

Wow, I respect your honesty. That's exactly what the Republican stategy is.

Regards,

I wish a Republican would have said these exact words instead of Reid...it would be refeshing to see the Left run to their defense. /s And who are we kidding here?

Harry Reid just needs to hook-up with Tiger and let everyone know he doesn't care about race or gender. Win for him!

Yup, parody posting all the way. Wasn't entirely sure until his last few in this thread. Mods need to check his IP, surely a good chance of being a formerly banned member. Best case, just a lonely parody poster.

EDIT: Haha, already banned. Nevermind.

So was the attention whore permabanned or just banned?

Debate? Debate what? I'm pointing out specific facts here. What I'm not doing is pointing fingers and playing the blame game.

1) Bank bailouts - People didnt want it, we got it
2) UHC - People didnt want it, we got it
3) Amnesty - People dont want it, we'll get it

The list goes on with smaller items. Throw in the rabid frothing at the mouth attacks on anyone who opposes our Rulers plans......
