We have Digital Zee TV (indian channel for my mom) which includes Limited Basic Service, and Digital Preferred Tier including Digital Classic.

Our bill used to be ~$90 for quite a while for TV and Internet. Two months back, they increased their prices which brought our bill to $115.

Now I just found out that they moved more than half the HD channels to a pricier package. Now I dont have TNT HD, TBS HD (doesnt make sense because TBS SD is still in the lim. basic package), ESPN, ESPN2, HD Theater, Mojo HD, Universal HD, MHD, YESHD, GOLF HD.

The only HD channels I get now are the network HD channels and Nat. Geo. HD.

HD channels are about the only ones I watch cuz SD channels look like crap on my TV. So in the course of two months, they jacked up our prices and reduced service. F U comcast!

Who here thinks I have any chance of getting the HD channels back if I call them up?

thats what I thought also. Well they dont charge you for HD specifically, but I'd have to upgrade to the Extended basic service for additional $40 a month to get the rest of the HD channels

Call them and threaten to change to a different provider... they usually provide incentive to stay

Those are all premium channels and you are getting a premium service (HD), therefore you should pay a premium. Why is this so difficult to understand?

He is paying for a premium service and was receiving the premium service (HD). Comcast changed the tiers and he is ranting.

Yeah, I'll be moving to DirecTV or Dish Network soon. I wish FIOS was coming to my area sometime in the next 20 years so that I didn't have to use Comcast at all.

how are those premium channels? Premium channels are HBO, Cinemax, etc. Those are cable channels and used to be part of the limited basic package for as long as i can remember.
Now they have moved them to a higher priced package. Hence my title "and the comcast screw continues..."

Apparently you are the one having difficulty in understanding

Comcast is a monopoly for the most part. Till things change (which it looks like they are) they will price gouge.

They are HD channels, they are premium.

You got a taste for a while so they could gauge demand. Supply/demand - live it, love it, learn it, use it.

-edit-
One way to move your customers in a certain direction is to force them to move via cost.

HD channels arent a premium with comcast. They advertise free HD just like IO.

My fiance just said $50, and we have an boatload of channels. She called them up one day after paying our comcrap bill and got a deal with them. I would suggest doing the same. The quality is just as good as comcast, we are still getting used to it.
My only complaint so far was the idiot installer, but once he set up the dish and sealed the cable through the wall, we were good to go.

I have to see how much comcast would charge for internet if i drop cable tv. I still need comcast for internet because i work from home twice a week and need a high speed connection for that. If comcast's increased internet price + directTV price is reasonably close to what im paying right now, might as well switch to directTV

Check if you can get cable service through Earthlink.

Earthlink just resells DSL or cable anyways and they're prices are same as the cheaper cable internet price for the first year.

You can hold out for Fios in the mean time.

Aharami,

They're not stupid, your cable company. They know exactly what the competition is and their customer base is. If it works out better for you then that is competition at work.
