I won't miss Saab. Most people won't. It seems like it had become a very strange brand. I wonder if there are any great deals on Saabs now, and repair them with Subaru parts *shrug*

Well there was only 1 model(2 variants of it) that you could do that with, and it's always been cheaper than the Subaru one. Back when it was new you could get one for well under what a WRX wagon cost. Only problem is trying to find one.

It's kind of sad as they were starting to turn themselves around and get back to being what Saab was all about. Their future models did look promising so it will be interesting to see what happens to them. I hope they can come out of this ok.

I just replaced my Saab (owned since new in 1996) in December and I specifically didn't go with Saab this time because the handwriting was on the wall.

Too bad because the 900 had the absolutely best dash layout I've seen outside of a plane, and I loved zipping by the four wheelers and SUVs in the winter-at double the gas mileage.

EDIT-I realize this was filed as a Chapter 11 reorganization, but the Swedish government has already refused to contribute to any bailout. I'm afriad they will be down for the count.

Odds are it's done. There isn't exactly a line out the door right now to invest in foundering car makers.

Just about everyone here says that bankruptcy protection for cars = liquidation since no one will ever buy their cars. Now, lets sit back and see how true that statement is.

I personally believe that bankruptcy done properly can let a manufacturer survive and grow stronger. But, I think it'll be a very difficult road that is easy to fail.

I like their cars but always went with a company a little south of them called Audi.

Oh bullshit,
it's a function of price. That argument is the same economic idiocy as "Americans don't want these jobs".

If you're selling cars with bad reliability and shitty interior (GM in past 10 years), you should price them accordingly. The reason why your marketshare shrunk is because you were selling the said cars at the same pricing point as imports with better reliability and interiors.

Yeah, but they produce high-end sports/super cars.

As for Saab, I could see the Swedish government purchasing them.

He's partially right. Only in the last 2-3 years have the domestics equaled the best the imports have to offer in their price points in interior quality. It wasn't until the GMT900 series of trucks/suvs & the new Malibu have they truly caught up. I should know as I drive a 2008 G6 and it's interior is still behind my wife's 2003 Accord. Neighbor's 2009 Malibu is superior to the 03' accord and about on par with the current accord.

unless you're an idiot you were not paying the same prices for domestics and hondas/toyotas in the same class. even in the compact class there was easily $1000 difference. and that difference only got larger the further up you moved. comparing MSRPs is pointless when no one pays MSRP.

Pff my parents' MKX still isn't on par with world luxury when it comes to interior, Caddy is the only one and only since 07 models.

I drive a 2000 audi and the interior is still better than the 09 MKX when it comes to build and materials.

all aboard the fail boat!

i guarantee you the MKX cost thousands less than competing vehicles. so they're not the same pricing point. better to compare it to the highlander and pilot, though it may be even less than those two.

edit: yup, carsdirect has MKX and highlander v6 and leather for about the same price, highlander a little cheaper. get out to a lincoln dealer and you can get well below the carsdirect price, i'll bet. local dealer has been advertising them for 29K.
