so were would be the problem....? (as long as she takes the pill)

its an interesting article although CNN jumps the gun on a lot of stories. its true that viral specific 'sugar' patterns can be immunogenic. if true about this 'rare' individual, it would be a very interesting matter. the hard part is to generate such an antibody for vaccinations or therapeutics. it might be easier to generate a polypeptide bearing sugars that very closely resembles the viral epitope, but that would be extremely difficult; although now, a little less difficult.

I don't want there to be a cure. AIDS is helping our population decrease as are other viruses. Ever hear about how if you put a thousand animals of one species on an island with no threat how it will do poorly but if you put a pack of wolves or a threat on with the other animals, how it will thrive? If AIDS doesn't kill us, we'll kill each other from overpopulation or just hate.

I hope there's never a cure. AIDS should be a lesson to the stupid.

Tell that to the 6 year old that slid into thirdbase, only to get stabbed with a junkie's needle, or a kid that is born to an HIV positve mother, or the woman that is raped by an HIV+ raper.

Don't be so anal.............

And we wonder why some guys aren't nice????????

Who wants to dish death on other people?

Sure you can prevent it but its still not good of anyone to wish them to die.

Bunch of haters!

Now that is the worst comment I have heard in YEARS!

May you be the first to die from it, you stupid fvck.

khlee's post may have been insensitive, but it's definitely not stupid. Disease does just that, control the population. HOWEVER, when scientists find a cure for a deadly disease, I just get a BIG smile on my face. I feel like it just punches God in the face and says, "is that all you got!." And that makes me happy. 🙂

Seems like you know quite a bit about this stuff. Why don't you go help them out and suggest that to them? Or do you think they already know about that?

Errr, I don't think God sits around designing and unleashing diseases to kill us. And if he didn't want us to be able to find a cure, we wouldn't.

i actually know this guy. i worked at The Scripps Research Institute for several years, in the Immunology department, in the same building as this guy. i used to go watch his presentations too. he's a really smart guy, and i'm glad that he's making a big contribution. just to let you know, i was working on finding a cure for multiple sclerosis at the time.

and to those of you who say the cure shouldn't be found, can you honestly say you know how AIDS patients feel? babies born to an HIV+ mother, women and girls who contract it through rape, countless people who died as a result of tainted blood supply.... how would you feel if your mothers and sisters contracted HIV through similar situation? would you still say AIDS is a good thing?

my employer currently makes the best drug that treats HIV/AIDS patients. i have co-workers, who are also friends, who have been working very hard to improve what is already a great drug. we were just able to get a FDA approval which cuts dosage down to only twice a day (compared to 6+ times for competitors' drugs). naturally, we get to see a lot of testimonies from patients who benefited by taking our medication, and they are all everyday normal people just like you and i. they just happen to be unlucky and contracted the disease.

Go SARS! Go West Nile!

I do not think I have ever seen anyone root for deadly diseases before.

I root for deadly diseases all the time. If disease doesn't control the world's population, then we need more wars to thin out the herd.

If you must know that was sort of sarcastic. SARS and West Nile have a pretty low fatality rate. By comparison anyway.

Thank you Jeffrey, I hope idNut sits down in a chair at the movies and winds up getting pricked by a junkie's needle. Oh well, its his fault for being stupid and not checking to see if a junkie's needle was there in the first place.

Even with unprotected sex...yea, its stupid, but if you make one drunken mistake you deserve to DIE?

fvck that. what if someone you know, your mom or your girlfriend (whenever you get one) maybe, gets raped by some fvcker with AIDs? you're gonna be crying for a cure then.

asshole

It should be but I take it you don't have it.

I'll never understand why people who are worried about overpopulation and hope peopledie don't just do everybody a favor and kill themselves. They've identified the problem and have easy access to a cure..

i can't beleive what im reading ... how could some of you guys actually say that AIDS should be a lesson or that we shouldn't help the rest of the world ... have you all lost your humanity ... you guys are just ******.

Now give all the poorer countries the money to prevent them.

Preventable? How? By abstaining from sex? I can understand not sharing needles but abstaining from sex, while possible, is not the solution that I'd prefer or anyone else in their right mind. AIDs is a tough disease to develop vacines for, in part because of it's prodigious powers to mutate.

I swear some of you guys are f*cking dipsh*ts. It's one thing to wish death upon people but it's another to wish a disease on people where your body basically rots away over 5 to 10 years.

Not our job to save the world. Viper GTS

We don't live in a bubble. What kills in the rest of the world will ultimately kill us here.

Jesus...
I saw a documentary on PBS last night that, in part, dealt considerably with AIDs. It's contributing to many other problems such as terrorism. It is destabilizing sub-Saharan Africa and severely weakening the entire region. That makes it a hotbed of terrorism and a whole melange of other nasty problems. The AIDs infection rate has increased by a factor of 20 in Russia since 1998. AIDs is a HUGE problem for the whole world. It's not our job to save the world? That's not a good attitude. It was that attitude that lead to WW II, and WW I too, actually. Our fates are entwined. "The dog starving at his master's gate predicts the ruin of the state." - William Blake
