ok, then pay more for a X800XL that costs MSRP300$ than for a X800XT??? This is no way right, there's a limit that they and you obviously don't know...

As long as everyone continues to be out of stock, then the demand is higher than the supply, even at the insane prices. Once they have the card stocked for awhile gathering a little bit of dust in the warehouse, the prices will start to come down.

That's not entirely correct. X800XT PCIe can be found for $470-500 online. Who is going to want to buy X800XL for $599?, even $499? Even at $450 no one should buy it since for $20-50 more you can get X800XT. That's why X800XL cannot be competitive at anything above $399. Supply and demand only holds true if there are no other better alternatives when clearly in this case there are plenty.

This raises an even more interesting question. Why are people obsessed about PCIe and PCIe-based boards? I don't see a logic in buying $500 6800GT PCIe or $400 X800XL. For $380 you can get AGP 6800GT. Later the $100 you saved today can buy you a new PCIe board. I tend to think that ppl who drop $500US on a videocard buy every generation or very often so I doubt it's hard for them to afford a new videocard in 1 year's time and a new $120 mobo that are both PCIe? You could always sell the AGP based high-end motherboard to finance the PCIe upgrade later. It only makes sense to invest in PCIe when prices for PCIe motherboards and graphics cards are reasonable and availability is wide or you have enough money to purchase at inflated prices now (and don't care). PCIe to me is the same as SATA or SATAII for that matter - marketing. The fact is any graphics card today will perform within 2% at AGP1X vs. PCIe 16X (in fact PCIe is slower than AGP cards since PCIe drivers are not mature yet). The reasons why manufacturers want to promote PCI are a) make more money b) so that later on the market is ready and the adoption has taken place. Except for HDTV that saturates the AGP bus, PCIe wont be useful for a long time. Why? Because what videocard will find it insufficient to have 4GB of data transfer rate (AGP bus is certianly capable of that)? That same card will need like 48 pipelines and 2 gigs of onboard RAM. And why do I keep seeing threads on Asus A8N-SLI and 6600GT (saving money for a future upgrade)....Yeah my primary goal is gaming that user says.....????

There is XL for $450 on ZZF, which is still over priced, but much less than the Asus version. I think its a Powercolor.

true but that other one is a OEM so its not even got retail goodies with it :(

Well if this doesn't drop to under $320 by the time I am building, then I am getting a 6600GT, plain and simple.

I still don't understand why people are so surprised when companies price gouge highly anticipated computer hardware and are out of stock. This happens so often now that people should be used to it.

But its not some crappy Asus card, and its $150 less. You can still RMA a OEM card if it goes bad. Im happy with my OEM X850XT/PE, doesnt matter to me if its not retail.

ZZF dropped it another $20. Down to $430. MUCH better than $500, but still well over MSRP. Two price drops in two gays.. perhaps in a few weeks, it will be $350'ish.

they will drop even more, and WAY more. Since the X850XT PE is coming out SOON (2/4 is official ETA)....and the X850 will not only be MUCH more available (according to ATI...cough cough)....but also FASTER.

And its f****g cheaper, MSRP is $549 and vendors list it for starting at $460. MANY etailers actually.

I really pity everyone buying a X800XT for those prices....but on the other hand its not my "duty" to rage against human stupidity :)

Btw. i ordered a X850XT PE myself ($460)..and there are already people who did the same.

Btw2: I didnt even KNOW that X800XT is still manufactrured...lol...the cards you buy must be recycled from other people who bought 'em for $1000 or so....as is my understanding these cards are not manufactured anymore and replaced with X850XT/XT PEs etc.

Given that they are out of stock, it is possible that people bought the product for that price. In which case, the product could be priced to low, not to high.

You can't really tell demand just by looking at price. You need to take into account the available supply as well.
