Op, I feel you man. That is stupid. projector finishes off all of those displays, amen for projectors, dude.

Do I detect that you are complaining about this? I fail to see the problem. Bring em on! :)

Demand is up, meaning the schools raise tuition and install sh!t like this to get you to come to their school. That's why you pay $25,000.

And what do the students care? Its daddy's money anyway.

(Sorry, I know everyone isn't like that...it just seemed like everyone but me when I was going to college.)

$10k just to have a crisp and clear picture pointing the way to room 212.

yeah i have noticed a lot of schools doing this (mine included).

i think what is happening is school administrators are trying to be "in" with technology to make schools seem advanced, but its pretty annoying to me. a poster can do what these TVs are doing. maybe not in aphex's case, but most of the time its just a banner for a school, or a phone number, or something else just as stupid.

yeah. i wonder how they come up with useing a $4k plasma when a $20 and nice frame/glass could do the same fricken thing?

Law school is often the bank's money to be repaid for many years.

Wow, they did that with some plastic signs in the new building we have.
The hilarious part was, before the signs were made, they had printouts of the signs. The printouts included clear photocopies of the Braille. :D I suppose if you have really sensitive fingers, you could still feel the slightly raised areas of toner.

I believe Daredevil could 'read' the newspaper through the ink that way.

Did we really need THAT many 50"+ plasmas...

Wouldn't a single projector be cheaper and more efficient?

BTW, my school has plasmas in the music department just scrolling the day's agenda. Oh well, as long as it's the music department's money and not the engineering or the science. (though there are 4 plasmas in the engineering building that just sit around deactivated)

Oh, and a new $30M engineering and business building. It was just finished at the end of August this year. The roof is already leaking in several places, at least one area was roped off for repairs, a wall has plywood over it, windows throughout the building leak, and the concrete walkways are already cracking. Some skimming off the top perhaps?
Oh but it looks fancy - excessive use of glass everywhere. The damn railing supports are thick panes of glass. The heating bills are going to be insane for that place.

Ha, sounds like my school. I'd think it was my school, except our engineering building was built 10 years ago.

If it's a public school, it goes to the state, which then funds the university.

Just wait 5 years when those plasmas all need maintinence. Then you'll start paying $30,000/year

thats why i dont get why they do that (well use them as maps etc). a good map incased in glass or something will last 20+years and is far far cheaper.

And think of how much power they're going to use.
Think of the cost to replace in the event of vandalism or theft.
