You mean better specs besides the much smaller screen and way lower resolution? The Camera shouldn't even get brought up as a plus because 1.6mp will be totally worthless. HDMI out is nice as is the MicroSD slot. But the specs are not better overall, and the resolution kills it for me. I mean you have cell phones with 1/2 the screen size which have equal resolution. If this had been the iPad people who are going to buy it would be laughing their asses off talking about how much it sucks and how it doesn't run a real OS. Crazy what a name does or doesn't do to a product. Not saying this product sucks but at $400-500 it's a fucking joke.

Really? So it will fit in my pocket? This is no more portable than a 10" device, it's not like the iPad weighs a hundred pounds. This is smaller but it's no more portable as it won't fit in your pocket and is only about .4lb lighter. And with that gigantic bezel at the top and bottom it's not much smaller than an iPad considering the screen's 3" smaller. It's also thicker.

You could just say "it's not made by Apple, I hate it" and save yourself a lot of time and typing.

At this point with the failures of other tablets before they're even released, I don't even care if this tablet can do my laundry, make toast, or travel through time.

I'm done reading specs on tablets, lets get something that actually works and does it well.

This looks decent, but I think I'll wait for the next generation of tablets. Hopefully something better comes out this fall or early next year.

but that's not true, I own a Windows Mobile phone, I own a Windows 7 computer, I have a Sony Mp3 player. It's possible for somebody to think this tablet isn't that great and like the iPad better.

Yeah, but... both are meh.

And one costs far more than it should. And considering only one has an official price, that should leave no guesses.

;)

I've said it before, and I'll say it again:
Notion Ink - Adam

http://gizmodo.com/5471559/notion-ink-adam-tablet-caught-on-video-specs-finalized
http://www.slashgear.com/notion-ink-adam-hands-on-0969281/

Basically waiting on Adobe (isn't everybody?), and nVidia (Tegra2 delays).
Once those are ready, it seems it's basically up to the manufacturing side.

Mostly depends on the price as far as I'm concerned. If it's $800, I'm going to have trouble even thinking it's a good idea; if it's $500-600, I basically will think strongly but most likely purchase; under $500, I won't think twice, basically committed already. :)

It's basically everything I want in a tablet.

It looks intriguing. It's interesting that there's no mention of battery life. They mention the battery specs, but not how long that the battery will last. In my experience that's generally a bad sign.
according to the video in the OP link, they're saying 16 hrs playing hd video.

You're not my pal, buddy. :ninja:

Seriously though, I was disappointed when Google priced the N1 so high :( Guess that's when I started falling out of love with them...

are you referring to the unlocked price? i thought 179 was pretty reasonable on contract. i paid full price though...

The unsubsidized price of the N1 was lower than the unsubsidized price of the Droid and iPhone 3GS, despite having much much better hardware.

The best part about the Google Android Tablet?

It runs Adobe’s Flash and Air apps flawlessly. That was the first time I saw Adobe’s Air apps running on a tablet and totally impressed by how it ran. And now I can understand why Apple wants to ban Flash and other Adobe products completely from their iPhones and iPads, because it’s rather incredible technology.

The prototype that was demo-ed at the Web 2.0 Expo show was showing the current workings of the Wired magazine’s Google Tablet app. Certainly, it looks like Google Android tablet will make a big impact on worldwide tablet sales.

I, for one, want to get one of these over an iPad, simply because I need the choice of having “flash” on my tablet computer. What’s the point of carry a 10-inch slab of technology if it doesn’t give you the best of both worlds?

Could not agree more :) If I am going to get a tablet at all it better be perfect at rendering the WHOLE internet. That is just the price of admission as far as I am concerned.

I tried out the iPad and fell in love with it. I was very close to pulling the trigger. I am so glad an Android version is coming out. I will be getting it and buying NVDA stock.

What public companies would benefit most from an iPad competitor selling like hotcakes?

For once I actually agree with Quebert. This isn't really impressive. Plus, are you really going to just claim that its better due to specs?

One major point that gets overlooked in specs, is that when your device is 90% screen, you'd better have a good quality screen. Something tells me this is going to be netbooks all over again and we're going to end up with a bunch of poor displays.

I personally wouldn't hinge too much on Tegra for two reasons. Will the extra power even get utilized? You're talking about a market that hinges on lowest common denominator. What's the point if you end up waiting months for hacks and the headaches involved in dealing with not quite stellar software support? Second, literally no one has actually backed up any of the battery life claims. If there's one thing we should have learned by now its ignore battery life claims. Hell, I've seen some of these articles where the people making the device pretty much just assume that Tegra 2 is drastically more efficient than the iPad's processors. Until they can actually prove any of this, its just more BS, and don't forget just how much shit nVidia likes to spew out. Then there's the part where companies are waiting for nVidia to actually have it produced so they can actually use it in their products (I just hope nVidia hasn't been letting the Fermi team work on Tegra...), so I guess that's 3 things.

I would love to see the iPad killer, and call me crazy, but I'm going to remain skeptical until such a device actually emerges. I just hope we'll see something better than what's happened the last couple of times the non-Apple tech world got whipped up (netbooks and the massive failure that was UMPCs).

I wonder if that demo was just for AIR products, because by other accounts adobe's flash developers have a way to go:

Yesterday, I moderated a panel discussion on HTML5 and Flash at FlashCamp Seattle, a nice little event put together by the smart people at Universal Mind. It was a good time. For a web standards-oriented designer/developer like myself, it was cool to see how the other half lives and what drives them. There are a lot of good and talented people in the Flash community, and it was awesome to get to meet some of them. The panel went well, and I’d like to put together a blog entry on the conclusions the panelists were able to draw — but not today. Today, I want to talk about something else that happened at FlashCamp Seattle.

In the opening keynote, Ryan Stewart, a Flash Platform evangelist at Adobe, demoed Flash Player 10.1 running on his Nexus One phone. When I realized he was going to show it, I got excited — I’ve been wanting to see how well Flash really works on a phone for years.

Here’s what happened: On his Mac, Ryan pulled up a site called Eco Zoo. It is, seemingly, a pretty intense example of Flash development — full of 3D rendering, rich interactions, and cute little characters. Then, he pulled up the same thing on his Nexus One. The site’s progress bar filled in and the 3D world appeared for a few seconds before the browser crashed. Ryan said (paraphrasing), “Whoops! Well, it’s beta, and this is an intense example — let’s try it again.” He tried it again and got the same result. So he said to the audience, “Well, this one isn’t going to work, but does anyone have a Flash site they’d like to see running?” Someone shouted out “Hulu.” Ryan said, “Hulu doesn’t work,” and then wrapped up his demo, telling people if they wanted to try more sites they could find him later and he’d let them play with his Nexus One.

Yep, Adobe is digging a pretty deep hole, and is YEARS late in delivering

I really really really want Adobe to DIAF. Even though having flash on my phone would give me something else to tease the Apple guys about, I hate that stupid company.

I don't feel too strongly about Adobe, but it does seem to me that flash development sort of stagnated once the bought Macromedia.

I had to look up DIAF. Wow. Guess you won't be sending them a Christmas card then, huh? :)

I have to say that I really don't care. I just don't want format wars to get in the way of my viewing a website. I am happy enough that the engineers at Adobe get a paycheck right up until I have some website that I want to view and my iPhone won't show it to me and then I'm promptly irritated with both Apple and Adobe (and the guy who wrote the website).

Hummm would that be Kool-Aid that tastes like shit because it was made with 1/3 of the sugar? No thing though, I won't be installing Flash on my Android if I have the option, and if I don't I'll be running an app that totally blocks the POS from doing anything. It's about as epic fail as you can get when you set up a conference to show off how bad ass your product is and this is what happens. Adobe's just helping Steve Jobs prove that Flash isn't ready to be on a mobile device, I'm sure he's at home smiling right now because of this.

I'll consider a tablet when I can use it to browse (and actually see) the entire internet AND it has multi-tasking capability. The ability to output via HDMI (or whatever the high-def standard of the day may be) should also be standard out of the box.

Have to agree that I'd like the same requirements in a tablet as well.

I'll say it again..I hope HTML5 wipes out Adobe. My one hope was that I could watch web based videos while the Apple guys couldn't, but I already have that.
