Congrats Bush, you deserve it.

Cnn is showing Gore's speech, he's trying to keep a smile on his face but it's apparent he's suffering.

<< And Bush is the "official" 43rd president >>

Correction, and Bush will be the 43rd president. He's not the president for a couple months :p

Anyone else notice how much Gore's jaw was clenching at the end of his speech? :Q

Gore is giving a very good speech. He is taking the high ground and calling for the country to fall behind Bush. Just as I expected.

He did give a good speech. I was impressed. I am a little afraid that he is going to show up Bush. :) He did mention Vietnam... dunno how smart that was, but he did it, and now it is over...

Balt, I saw that too.

Hey, if you had spend the last year and a half pouring over a campaign to be the President of the United States of America and fighting like crazy for what you believed in, you would be a "little" choked up when you had to give up, too.

<sigh>

The only good things that come out of this are a 50/50 senate, good SNLs, and a Democrat in 2004. :)

Surprisingly decent speech.:Q Other than the bone he threw to the Jesse Jackson contingent, he avoided the meltdown I expected.

Time will tell whether he truly meant it, (I doubt it) but he did what was necessary for the country at this moment. I guess there's a first time for anything.

I will say, that is probably the best, most personable speech I've seen Al Gore give to date! You have to know that that was very dificult for him and I congratulate him for the grace in which he made it! I sincerely hope we as Democrats & Republicans & Independents can do as he asks and begin mending all our ties!

The other thing that I thoguht was odd was the "and I won't be calling him back this time."

Kinda bombed on that one...

I agree. It was a good speech, but there are still plenty of subliminal code messages contained in it. This one is particularly interesting:

<< ...contests as hotly debated and as fiercely fought, with their own challenges to the popular will... >>

Translation: Even though I'm not going to the Whitehouse, I actually won.

Obviously the speech wasn't written by him.

I loved the "mending fences" crap... Reminds me of all the other lies. Good riddance I say.

I disagree DanC, he speaks that way, always with a very patriotic tone.

I am just glad this sh!t is all over. I didn't want either of them as a president.

Russ - Your paranoia is showing. It was far nicer than you were expecting.

DanC - Please. Give it a rest. Bush won and Al Gore was very statesmanlike in his speech.

DanC, actually Gore wrote that speech all by himself, but I guess unless it comes from something like the Federalist it doesn't count as true in your book. CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS don't count I s'pose.

Michael,

When it comes to Gore, paranoia is not possible. It is known as caution.

The media's been frothing about how Gore alledgely wrote the speech himself. I'm surprised that they didn't announce that he dressed himself today.

Also, when they went back to Peter Jennings, he looked like he was all verklempft and was going to cry, "God, I love that brave, brave man!":Q:Q:Q
