i am just starting to learn ( or try).....networking.........here is my rookie question.........
i have a internal pci DSL modem in my main computer.......on the other side of the room i have my new setup, and i need to share dsl with the new machine........do i need a router???...if so what kind...cat5 or usb for the input of the dsl.....there is a network card in each machine.......now what???.....do i connect my main machine to the input of the router and then connect the other machine to a port on the router?????...im totally confusing myself here....HELP......

Yes, you will need a router. Connect the modem to the router's WAN port using a crossover cable. Connect the network cards to a port on the router using cat-5 cables. So you were pretty much right with everything.

Internal PCI DSL Modem does not leave you with many options. Unfortunately you can not use a Cable/DSL Router; you need to use Software NAT (routing software).

Connect the two Computers via a CAT5 CrossOver cable.

Down load the following shareware program, and give it a try.

Sygate® Home Network

Well, since an Internal PCI modem delivers the output to a PCI Bus jack, and a Cable/DSL Router needs an input through a RJ-45 Plug.

Even the rule ?Plug it if it fits does not work?

that is what was naging me in the back of my mind ..jack......thanks for the suggestions.....will download the software and read up ......thanks
