i am just starting to learn ( or try).....networking.........here is my rookie question.........
i have a internal pci DSL modem in my main computer.......on the other side of the room i have my new setup, and i need to share dsl with the new machine........do i need a router???...if so what kind...cat5 or usb for the input of the dsl.....there is a network card in each machine.......now what???.....do i connect my main machine to the input of the router and then connect the other machine to a port on the router?????...im totally confusing myself here....HELP......

Yes, you will need a router. Connect the modem to the router's WAN port using a crossover cable. Connect the network cards to a port on the router using cat-5 cables. So you were pretty much right with everything.

Internal PCI DSL Modem does not leave you with many options. Unfortunately you can not use a Cable/DSL Router; you need to use Software NAT (routing software).

Connect the two Computers via a CAT5 CrossOver cable.

Down load the following shareware program, and give it a try.

Well, since an Internal PCI modem delivers the output to a PCI Bus jack, and a Cable/DSL Router needs an input through a RJ-45 Plug.

Even the rule ?Plug it if it fits does not work?
