Anbody ever return a CPU to newegg?

I got a bad 1.33Ghz Tbird from them and now It's gotta go back. I read on their site that they only take back processors witin 7 days. Curious to know how firm this is. Anyone have any experience in this matter with newegg.com?
 
Generally, i have found that they have been jerks about returns. They wouldn't take back my processor even though the POS didn't work when I got it. I read their policy before I purchased, but I guess I was being naive when I didn't think I would ever be returning it.
 
I think they only give refunds for up to 7 days. You can return anything for being defective I believe, at that point they just replace instead of offering money back, that's the way I read it anyway. I hope so, because my 1.2Ghz Athlon from them has been sitting here as I wait for heatsink and fan and I have yet to test it in any way so I hope it works.
 
Well, I'll let you all know how it turns out. I've been trying to get them on the phone now for the past 1/2 hour. I guess they don't start answering their phones until 9am PST. You would think they would at least have some kind of automated sytem answering the phones when they are not around...
 
This is why I will never, EVER touch OEM CPU's. It's not worth the risk. Pay the extra 15% and get retail box and you got yourself a full 3 year warranty.
 
Well, it's official, the only choice I have is to accept a replacement from Newegg for the part. I suppose this isn't so bad, but the fact of the matter is, it is generally bad policy to tell someone that you will not refund their money if you sell them a piece of garbage. It does not exactly build a good customer-vendor relationship. Now yes, I know, they say right in there purchase agreement that you have seven days to return your processor for a refund. But what kind of a policy is that!?!
One thing is certain, I will NEVER buy another processor from newegg again. Truth be told, I probably won't buy anything from them again (Screw me once, shame on you. Screw me twice, shame on me).

-I ended up getting a replacement from them. I didn't want it but that's really the best that I could do without ending up with a $200 paper weight.

It's called something you are supposed to read and understand BEFORE you purchase. How do you know the cpu is truly &quot;bad&quot;.

I was having a problem getting the thing to post, so in an effort to do some troubleshooting, I picked up duplicate parts from a local retail house(Fry's) When i swapped the processor, the thing posted just fine.

As to your comments about their policies, I did read it and understand it BEFORE I purchased. It was a gamble I was willing to take and I got burned, nobody to blame but myself. That, however, does not change the fact that, I personally, will NEVER buy another processor from newegg again because I do not agree with their policies and realize now that it really isn't worth the risk.
 
That's why good ol' brick and mortar stores will continue to flourish. Buying on-line is a risky business at best, wouldn'y you say?😛
 
I bought a oem 1.1gig tbird at www.tcwo.com which is in the top 3 prices when you figure in shipping charges and I just paid 8 bucks more to buy their recommended Heatsink fan combo and I get a one year warranty, which is plenty good enough for me figuring my frequent upgrading &quot;roadmap&quot;....either way you use HSF or not it is a 8.00 extended warranty. NO WHERE NEAR THE 15% of RETAIL as stated above

This 8 dollar fan rocks...It keeps my 1.1tbird oc'd to 1.2 at a nice cool temp of 38-39 idle and the highest temp I have seen to date is 44 celsius...has a 60mm fan and larger heatsink then previous models.
The reason they like it is they said it is the easiest to put on and &quot;dummy-proof&quot;.

Retail is a waste if:

a) You upgrade constantly...

b) Have a HSF from previous chip that is still sufficient

c) Want to save some money.

check out www.tcwo.com if you want to save money the oem route but may wish to get longer warranty...I believe their warranty for refunds may be 30 days...check it out ofcourse
 
tips:
1. use credit card with purchase protection, you just need to spend some to ship the stuff to credit card company for refund.

2. buy from big online vendors like buycom, onvia, etc with 30 days no question asked refund policy, they even pay for shipping if you claim defective.
(I had returned not doa but quite defective motherboard and vga card for refund at onvia.)

small online vendors (like newegg and any pricewatch vendor) only let you get replacement for defective, of course no refund, they don't have that much of capital like buycom can just let people refund if defective or they don't like it. most b&amp;m small computer stores also don't let you refund for defective, only replacement.

if you don't like this kind of business model, only go to fry's.
even compusa now charges restocking fee for opened computer hardware.
too many people were abusing refund/return, including me, I used to buy, try and refund new hardware from compusa.
 
thanks for the tips Kingofcomputer. It's really only the newegg processor return policy I have a problem with. I have otherwise been very pleased with newegg, with both their prices and their prompt delivery.
