In total, it says they have 325k tasks available (meaning all but 5k are beta only). Knowing this, it does not make sense to me why enabling the flag (so far for me) means that I have steady uninterrupted tasks, one after the other. It seems the 320k public/beta tasks should get picked up regardless of the flag, by the client. Maybe beta testers get priority?

Under normal server load, one should never be out of work (unless the downloading of the next task is slow). Any delay between tasks is unacceptable to me personally, much less a delay that may get exponentially longer.

This is just opinion, but I think all the COVID-19 tasks are in beta, having just recently been coded. Perhaps enable it now, then disable it when things return to normal?

So it’s better to consolidate the GPUs into one system instead of spreading them around? If I put the 1080ti in the core 2 quad, what do I do with the apu hosts? The integrated video is in the realm of a RX250 if I remember correctly... just power them off?

What are your plans with it all long term? There are tradeoffs between multiple GPU's in one machine vs one per which come down to preference as much as anything. I like the flexibility of having multiple machines and being able to turn them on and off as needed, but have done dual GPU as well. Single GPU can be a smaller watt PSU, cheaper motherboard, cheaper case, etc. and is generally easier to cool With Folding@home you don't need much CPU, so you can even source used parts for motherboard/RAM, or reuse old stuff, just be careful not to go too old/low end or at least make sure the PPD you're getting is close to expected for that card. I temporarily had a 980ti in an old Pentium Dual core from the Core2Duo days machine and my PPD was low from it so it seemed CPU bottlenecked, BUT a 2070 I have in an i3-4130 machine gives expected PPD. I like to run BOINC projects as well, some CPU some GPU, so there's consideration there too when I'm deciding what to build. What power supplies do your spare machines have? If they're adequate, maybe consider throwing a 2070 or 2070 Super in each one and see if you get expected PPD and if not throw a cheap used motherboard/cpu/ram in there.

FWIW I'm working on a 11781 task right now which is listed as a COVID task and do not have the Beta flag(or anything for Client Type) set. I was having tons of issues for awhile getting WU's but the last couple days work is much more consistent. Not 100% but definitely better.

Sounds like the CPU load prevented the GPU feeder from keeping GPU utilization as high as possible.

3 of my 9 GPUs are out of service now: The triple-GPU computer shut itself off. On power-on, the BIOS complains about CPU overtemperature and lets me enter the BIOS setup (where it shows 89 °C CPU temperature), but doesn't let me boot into the OS. So I can't at least clear its current F@h and Rosetta work caches. Except perhaps if I plug the disk into another computer.

The pump is working, the water is cool, so I suspect the CPU waterblock is blocked with old dirt in the loop. I will have to take it apart and open the CPU and GPU waterblocks to check.

Couldn't have this happened before the weekend rather than on Sunday evening?

Also, my Hawaii chip (290x) is up and running atm, but seems to have had some issues with a failed WU. Going to keep an eye on it. I bough that thing new back in 2014... ~ 300W of 28nm goodness... don't fail me now!

Maybe since the client is asking only for a gpu wu, now its focusing more resources purely on obtaining those and just keeping the gpu working? In theory, the work queue of each folding slot is managed independently (i.e. work requests, downloads, running the folding core, uploads). But I have seen the client working itself into a mess with one slot, and subsequently behaving abnormally with the other slot too.

That said, WU availability on Saturday and Sunday was much increased for all teams, and even the highly increased production at AWSFolds caused only a small decrease from Saturday to Sunday at the other two largest teams. So it is possible that what you saw was more due to the generally improved task availability, and less due to changes of your configurations.

I suspect the CPU waterblock is blocked with old dirt in the loop. I will have to take it apart and open the CPU and GPU waterblocks to check.

To add to this, I have got four watercooled PCs, all left without maintenance since winter 2017/2018 except for blowing dust out now and then. The main difference of the 3-GPU computer vs. the other ones is that it contains components of my first watercooled PC from 2016. It had a modular all-in-one cooling, which had sealant on the fittings put on by the manufacturer. The sealant had already worked itself into the loop some time in 2017. My suspicion is that there are still remains of this somewhere in this loop. What I am trying to say is that watercooling can work reliably and even maintenance-free until the computing components become obsolete, but I took a risk with re-using components from an earlier failed loop.

Note that this can potentially require some user involvement:

• You need to monitor the client for any failures, especially whole series of failures.
• The etiquette is that people who try beta work are willing and able to write good failure reports.

However, the respective reporting section at the foldingforum is invisible to unregistered visitors, and read-only for logged-in foldingforum members. Write permission there can be had only after an application with demonstrated ability to be beta tester. (Speaking from what I read about it, not from experience.)

Personally I don't like my electricity bill to be for GPUs sitting idle, no matter how short a time.

Agreed. Though if there are two or three GPUs in the same system, and at least one keeps working, that takes the edge off of it. My GPUs draw 8 W while idle, which is a smaller part of whole system idle power consumption.

What was stable at the time in Prime95, draws 195W of power (package) with F@h running, and after a night of the CPU crunching at 90c, one of the RAM sticks crapped out (and a pricey 32GB one at that), also leaving that lane unusable.
I don't blame anyone but myself and there is a chance it's simply coincide (the Asus TUF-GAMING X570 I got had weird booting problems since day one), but that's something to keep in mind.

I set the PPT limit on my 3950X at 105 watts in the bios to reduce overall stress on the system since I run it 24/7. On projects like F@H and others that use avx/avx2, the clock speeds are ~3.5 GHz. On non-avx projects like Rosetta@home the cpu runs at ~3.8 GHz. Power draw from the wall is about 195 watts in both cases. CPU temps are ~ 65C.

90C!? Yikes! What temp's was it hitting under P95?

When I 1st setup my Ryzen 3700 (with its stock HSF) & ran F@H it rapidly went into the high 80Cs! I know the stock HSF aren't normally great, but I found the one that came with my CPU (Stealth IIRC) is complete junk! In the end I had to restrict socket power (PPT, thx Biodoc), from (IIRC) 88w to 75w, it now mostly sits around the mid 70s.
Longer term I need to sort out a better HSF, for now I'm looking to adapt an old Thermalright Ultima90 , when I remember to measure up the brackets for my mate to make!

F@H uses avx2? Ah no wonder the temps are high then!
