Super GT 300 Weekly Racing Series

As you all know from the other thread, we are starting a weekly racing series. The races will be run on Sunday evenings at 8pm CST (unless we all come together on a different time). Below is a list of people who have expressed an interest in racing, and a list of tracks and rules. This will be edited and is a work in progress. Any suggestions or advice is welcome. If you have any questions, post them or send me a PM.

Drivers: (if you are on the list and don't want to be, or aren't on and want to be, contact me). We are limiting the field to 16 cars, if you are 17th or lower in the list you may not get to run. Chances are that not everyone will show up each week though.

1. boshuter............................ psn: boshuter

TRACKS

1. Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca - 15 laps
2. Deep Forest
3. Monza
4. Tokyo Route 246
5. Suzuka
6. Nurburgring Nordschleife

We will run one race each Sunday. The season winner will be the one with the most points accumulated during the series. There will be 6 races, but we will drop your lowest weekly points. That way, if you miss a week, it won't hurt your standings. At the end of the season, I will give the winner a new Ferrari F2010

Points will be awarded as follows:
1st place 10 points
2nd place 8 points
3rd place 6 points
4th place 5 points
5th place 4 points
6th place 3 points
7th place 2 points
8th place 1 points

Race format: The races will start exactly on time. The track will open 30min. prior to start time. You may go on track anytime during that period and run hot laps. Your best lap time will determine your starting position. Once you start running hot laps, do not leave the track! You will lose any times you have put up and will probably have to start at the back.
A message will come on your screen telling you that there are 60sec left before race starts, again, just stay on the track. When the time expires your car will automatically be place on the starting grid in the correct position. A 3-2-1 countdown will start just like in Aspec races..... and the fun begins!

Rules:
1. Two tires must be on track at all times.
2. Rumble strips are considered part of the track.
3. If you run off the track, spin out, or anything else along that line, you must make sure you do not come back on track unless you can do so without getting in anyone elses way.
4. "Cutting" corners or chicanes is not allowed. There are times when it will happen, if it does, you are not allowed to advance your position due to it.
5. No ramming, blocking, or anything else that will cause contact with another car. If a faster car is approaching from behind, just hold your line, it's up to them to find a way around you.
6. No modification may be done to the cars to increase horsepower or reduce weight. You are allowed to run any tire you want.

Cars: We are running any Super GT 300 class cars. The list below is not every Super GT car, as I find more, I'll try to add to the list. Most are only available in the used car lot, the ones that can be purchased in the New Car Dealerships are marked.

Wedsport Celica S
Cusco Imprezza P - dealership
Wedsport Lexus IS350 P - dealership
Autobacs Garayia P - dealership
C West Nissan Silvia S15S
Superautobacs Apex MR-S '00

Penalties. As you know, we had some complaining and requests for reviewing some incidents in the last two races. I spent many hours going over replays of the last two races from different cars to try to determine if any penalties were warranted. Below are my decisions.

Race 5, Suzuka;
Shrugging_Atlas complained at lenght that thinlan29 "rammed' him in the hairpin, causing him to hit another car. I watched that replay MANY times and by no stretch of the imagination did he get "rammed", the speed difference between the cars when contact was made was only 2-3mph, certainly not enough to knock his car 30ft, especially since his car was only a couple of feet from divinciload's car anyway. I am not going to give a penalty for a bump like that, if I did, I would be reviewing every corner of every race and no one would get through the season without a penalty. This stuff happens, everyone seems to accept it as part of racing. I was punted clear off the track in that race and didn't feel that it was worth calling someone out in a public thread, it wasn't intentional and certainly not something problematic for that drivers.

Atlas also complained that thinlan cut a corner to gain position... I'm not even going to justify that with an explanation. He wasn't doing it regularly, he didn't gain anything by it, and I doubt you will find any other car that didn't cut that corner at some point during the race.

Race 6, Nurburgring;

This race had two people filing complaints, Atlas and supersnake75. Atllas said supersnake deliberately hit him in the carosel and pushed his car around the carosel and off track. Supersnake told me that Atlas's car was sideways when he came in contact with it and he admitted he didn't do anything to avoid hitting him or keep from pushing him around the carosel. supersnake complained that Atlas hit him at the end of the long straight on the first lap. He also said that Atlas cut off a major section of track by driving throught the grass on the first lap.

Here is my take on all this; Atlas lost control on about the 3 or 4th sweeping corner at the very beginning of the race causing him to go off track, instead of slowing down and coming back on track close to where he went off, he stayed on the gas and cut off a large portion of the track. He did not wait for traffic to clear before he went back on track, he came on right beside my car and ahead of ntrinsik. At the end of the long straight on the first lap, Atlas clearly took supersnake out, causing him to go way off track. From this point on, things got bad. Supersnake wanted revenge and he soon caught Atlas again and tried to hit him in one set of corners, but missed. Both he and Atlas were driving way beyond their ability to control their cars and were both guilty of overly agressive driving. They caught me on a very high speed section of track and instead of waiting to pass me on a straight where it would have been safe, Atlas elected to force his way around me on a turn where manuvering would have been impossible, he took me out, claiming my car made contact with his. I didn't protest it, but it was clearly a stupid move and another example of overy aggressive, or immature driving. When they reached the carosel, Atlas was losing control and his car was on the verge of going sideways into a spin when supersnake collided with him, pushing him around the carosel. Atlas then recovered quickly enought to cut a corner off track and pass supersnake by using the grass.

Basically...... Atlas and supersnake are both being DQ'd. We don't need that kind of driving. Atlas made a mistake cutting that corner on the first lap and a larger mistake taking supersnake out at the end of that straight. Supersnake made a mistake by not just running his race and filing a protest at the end of the race, instead he took off after Atlas looking for revenge. It was just a very immature race by both parties.

In the GT500 Series we are starting, I do not want to see this sort of thing. We are all here to have fun, we give a lot of leeway on bumping and everything else. If you have a complaint about something that happend in the race, send me a pm after it's over. DO NOT post two pages of whining and complaing in the public thread. Everyone in the series did a great job, there is going to be bumping, it's unavoidalbe and it happens in real life as well as in these races.

I ran some laps last night with a couple of the cars, but didn't really get into tuning other than setting trans gear to match the track. I think these cars were a good choice; I found them to be some of the easiest and best handling cars I've used.

That's awesome, we'll probably have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes

I've been having as much fun trading cars as I've had doing anything else in the actual game.

Have you turned in a time for your GTP ranking yet? I really haven't sat down and worked on it. So far my times are just about what the gold is for those two tests.

I havent raced online ever in GT5...any settings I need to change within the game?

Not really. I suggest just opening your own lobby and do your practicing
online. That will give you an idea of how the cars handle online. As we go along I'm sure some of us will get together for informal practice sessions online.

I posted the number of laps we will run for the first race. I'm basing the number of laps on an average lap time that will work out to about a 30min race.

My PSN is "blurredvision81", although I doubt I'll ever be able to make that time. If I can though, I'll hop on. Just don't expect me. :p

I ran the Academy stuff a few weeks ago, no way I've got a prayer of winning it, so I just wanted to get a time in because everyone that enters and puts up a time is going to get something, lol.

Other than that other league I'm running in, I haven't been doing much driving. I just don't like the Aspec and Bspec stuff. I've been spending all my time trading cars.... that's addicting

I hear that..... running against the AI cars teaches people to do that..... took me a long time to realize that if I braked much earlier, I would go a lot faster ;)

Yep, just did the licenses and half of the specials on my main account and that was it. I think I'm done with A-Spec and the retarded AI. My B-Spec is still at 0. I haven't even completed all the beginner races. I just do the seasonal events for credit to buy more cars to race people online with. Most fun I've had in a videogame. I traded a couple of cars but the 1/day limit kills it for me. :hmm:

GuitarrassDeAmor is PSN...not sure if I'll be able to play. Since getting LBP2, haven't done much in GT5 like I planned, therefore no fast cars like we'll be using yet...

If you need a car for the series...... I can help you out with that;) Send me a pm if that's what is keeping you from racing.

Good question.... I should have that in the first post.

You will be able to use ABS and Traction Control. SRF (skid recovery), Active Steering, and ASM (active stability management), will not be allowed.

As far as race line, I'm not sure, but I believe that if it's left turned on that it will only show up for those who choose to use it; if that is the case, we will allow it. If it has to show for everyone, then it will be disabled. I will check this out and put all this info in first post.

I drive with the race line on - I've noticed it's very conservative on when it tells you to brake. The AI follows it like they're glued to it, but a person can typically brake a little later than the red part starts and still make the turn. I use it as more of a suggestion: "Start braking roughly here"

My problem, I drive fairly agressively. I ran 10 laps or so in a private online race at Laguna Seca in the Lexus GT300 car and turned a 1:36.600 something with the race line on. I turned it off and drove a different car (High End G37? it was a race car) and did just slightly better after about 13 laps. It took me a long time to get used to running without the drive line.
