AnandTech Readers and Their Health

Folks,

Let's face it. Many of AnandTech readers have busy lives. It is easy to forget how important it is to watch our weight and eat healthy. So here I am to propose a quick survey. In your reply, include your weight and height, and calculate your BMI (Body mass index). Then, you can compare your BMI to the other AnandTech readers. After a number of replies, we will be able to conclude the survey. Of course, the result will be unscientific and biased, but at least, we will have an idea on the "AnandTech Obesity Problem."

What is BMI? It is a statistical measure of the weight of a person scaled according to height.

BMI = weight (kg) / height^2 (m^2) SI units
= 703 * weight (lb) / height^2 (in^2) US units
= 6.35 * weight (stone) / height^2 (m^2) UK mixed units

Definitions of BMI categories for adults used by CDC and WHO:

BMI < 18.5 Underweight
BMI 18.5-25 Normal range
BMI 25-30 Overweight
BMI >30 Obese

Let's start with mine.

Weight: 78 kg
Height: 1.82 m
BMI: 23.55 kg/m^2

Data pulled from Wikipedia

Important: BMI's accuracy in relation to actual levels of body fat is easily distorted by such factors as fitness level, muscle mass, bone structure, gender, and ethnicity. In fact, BMI is purely a statistical measure. Having a normal BMI value doesn't gurantee anything about your health. If you are concerned about your weight, go see a health professional.

I'm a 28 right now...

But even when I was in rip-roarin' shape (running every day... sixpack abs, etc) I was still a little over 25. I was 5-10, 175 and I had a 34" waist. :music: Never trust a big butt and a smile :music: 😛

I have a wide frame. It's funny how I'm built completely different than my brother. He's a little taller than me and a lot thinner. If he stands behind me his shoulders completely disappear behind mine. Other than the top half of his head you'd never know he was standing there.

I'm 5'5" and go anywhere from 132-140 (depending on how well my stomach is doing) and it's 22.0 - 23.3 BMI. Normal range.

age: 27
Weight: 195lbs
Height: 6'0"
BMI: 26.4

I admit I need to lose a few pounds. 10-15 would be ideal. I played HS Basketball and Football at 180lbs.

Age: 22
Weight: 120
Height: 5'2
BMI: 21.9

I'm in the best shape of my life. I went for a 3 mile run yesterday.

Age: 26
Weight 230
Height: 6'3.5"
BMI 28

However none of the things listed above are what I worry about. I'm more worried about managing my insomnia.

Age: 25
Weight: 160lbs
Heigh: 5'9"
BMI: 23.6

My weight varies by about 4 pounds in either direction though, depending on the time of day and how much I've eaten.

I'm 26, but I'm 6'4" and pretty muscular. I do have a bit of flab around the gut that I can't seem to get rid of though (there's a 6 pack under there somewhere! 🙂 ).

*cries* I'm a 30 currently. I used to be a 25. 5'11" and weighed 180-185. Now I weigh 215-220ish. I posted in another thread though, I had a lot of sports injuries and never adjusted my eating to compensate.
