Old thread revived with additional info.

Here is the article on Anandtech about video card overclocking:

http://www.anandtech.com/show/8589/anandtech-guide-to-video-card-overclocking-software

Despite the fact that both the introduction and conclusions are generically about video card overclocking for both manufacturers and most of the tools listed work on both cards we have the article listed as being presented by AMD.

Thus the article contains AMD tweets and news replacing the general news and pipeline story side bars that usually appear. Yet this isn't actually an article about an AMD product in any way, was it sponsored by them? Its not clear that it was and if so why is anything said about Nvidia at all in it and why is it not declared? This strikes me as one of those moments where I am feeling uneasy about what I read and where it came from and why it was classified as an AMD product article and has AMD sponsorship all over it. The clear line that when I first raised the issue of dedicating part of your website to AMD and was told in response that Anandtech understood the difference between its advertisers and its own articles seems to have been crossed now.

Who wrote the article really and why is it AMD branded, did they pay for it?

are you dumb?

straight from your link

You've landed on the AMD Portal on AnandTech. This section is sponsored by AMD. It features a collection of all of our independent AMD content, as well as Tweets & News from AMD directly. AMD will also be running a couple of huge giveaways here so check back for those.

How many watts is a burning candle?
Answer

We had an answer on our forum from Bored Chemist. He assured us the original standard candle will burn a waxy substance called spermaceti. It’s called that because it comes from sperm whales. The best that we have today is, of course, petroleum based wax. We’ve got to compare for that. But the standard candle, he says, would burn 120 grains of spermaceti an hour. That’s 8g.

Bored Chemist worked out for us that this means that it burns 2.16mg or about 2 thousandths of a gram of spermaceti every second. If we know how much energy is in a gram of this stuff we can work out its wattage which is essentially energy per second of the candle. Assuming that spermaceti is similar to a typical type of fat or oil we can see that it gets about 37kj per gram. The candle was burning 2 thousandths of a gram each second which gives us a power of about 80 watts.
The reason it isn’t as bright as an 80W light bulb is because it’s really inefficient. Most of that 80W is actually given out as heat. So it’s not like the energy efficient lightbulbs. Most of the stuff coming off candles is heat with only 0.05% of it, not very much at all, coming out as light.

Tough crowd around here, Candle.:D

although to be fair, due to the responsive design, that "what is this?" that explains the situation doesn't show depending on your browser / browser size.

Two things that let you know it's from AMD, the colour red and the "presented by AMD" near the top of the page.

i'm saying that specific caption "You've landed on the AMD portal..." that slayer points out is not visible/accessible in certain situations.

Yes I agree, its presented by AMD. I said exactly that. What I asked is why? Bare in mind articles under the presented by AMD section have been written by anandtech staff. This author however is AMD?

Do you not see that in the past articles under the AMD portal were reviews written by Anandtech about AMD products, now we have a review, on the front page of Anandtech that apparently is written by one Michael Wilding, is he an AMD or Anandtech employee. A lot of what just happened here seems unclear to everyone that just laughed at me. You seem to have missed the point that now AMD is writing articles that appears on the front page of Anandtech, passed off as articles from one of their advertisers. You guys call me dumb!

OP, recommend you bow out of this thread as gracefully as possible before it gets worse. You are doing yourself a disservice every time you post.

You guys are all really thick, I hate to say it but its incredible the level of stupidity you guys are showing. Either I have failed to articulate the problem or the idea of video card overclocking being an AMD specific thing has passed you all by, as has the idea that AMD is authoring articles for Anandtech now or I just articulated that really badly but I can't see the alternate interpretation. That isn't how it has been, this is a new breach of ethical conduct on Anandtech.

Welcome all the morons to the ignore list. You really are the bottom feeders of these forums.

Did they ever claim to be ethical or unbiased?

If you wanted an honest discussion about it why did you post this in Off Topic? :hmm:

Personally, I don't care. I mostly buy Intel stuff because the company I work for is an Intel supplier. Nvidia is also a customer of ours.
