Anandtech Members Lottery... Now THAT'D BE COOL! :)

I was just pondering...

wouldn't it be amazing if there was a lottery for people on this forum?
it's be great because we have over 75000 members.

here's my idea.
we have a paypal account.
and everyone who wants to join in the lottery puts $1 USD into the paypal account.
and once the pool reaches $1000 (or something big), then we make a random draw of all the people who paypalled into the account, and transfer the money to the lucky sender.

and if it gets popular, we might be able to have a draw every week... or even better, HIGHER PAYOUTS
this would be cool because it'd be totally non-profit and totally fun for the x-mas season.

not bad, I sortof like it, would be nice to start with something smaller like 500... or even 200, otherwise people will get tired of waiting for 1000 members joining this.

well, I never buy any lottery unless the payout turned out to be better than the odds (which doesn't happen much, but it happens).

but I'm just thinking that this is a community of people with similar interests.
and that it might be cool to have something like this going on that's 100% NON PROFIT.

you know, just for the heck making someone's new years an amazing one.

plus, it's only a poor man's tax when lottery companies make a profit out of the lottery tickets.


anyway, the hardware idea sounds cool too.
something like a GeForce3 where the raffle ends when the price of the card is retrieved.

how about this... since the members here of Anandtech ARE the reason this site is so successful, how about anandtech, inc. donates all this free hardware they get sent to review to an anandtech members lottery on a regular basis ? that would own, and make it more worth me having spent $30 just to post here in an acceptable environment

its good enought they make the forums free, and give free reviews. i base most of my computer hardware buys on the reviews that anandtech makes.

i'm kind of worried that this would lead to a large influx of less than quality users. but anyways, i vote we start at something low, like 100 bucks, and people can donate as much money as they want, it'll just increase their chances. maybe make a limit, like 5 entries per person or something.
