Nothing happened when I went through the article. I do have a flash blocker, though, so no flash runs unless I explicitly click on it.

It doesn't happen every time, I'm pretty sure it depends on which adservers are requested.

I went through the entire article with, and without, script blocking on. Nothing. Nada. Zip.

If there was a malicious script I should have been alerted, and I went through the entire article many times. Again, nothing, nada, zip.

Same here, except I had Adblock and Flashblock on.

FF 2.0.0.11

I did it again, this time on a BRAND NEW install I had just done for a client. Website popped up again. XP Home FF 2.0.0.11

I have also found that it doesn't happen at a certain place, just somewhere during the article, normally when you go to a new page.

it seems that despite the certifications and expertise, some FAIL has found its way into your setup. :Q

Maybe I'm stubborn, but I have a really hard time believing that my computer is causing this, especially when its happening on 4 different computers of mine, and also on mobobuff's computer.

Got it to happen again so I could take a screenshot. Had to view 8 pages before it happened, took about 10 seconds after the page was finished loading. I have Adblock installed.

Thank you for the report, casperslide2004. Like most sites, AnandTech.com has advertisers, and they can be compromised. Interesting article at SANS about that trend I'd guess that's what's going on; it seems more likely than AnandTech.com itself being compromised. Anyhow, I'll notify an appropriate person about this.

If anyone else encounters the same symptoms, you can help by viewing the page's HTML source and PM'ing it to me. Don't refresh the page, because the bad code might get rotated out when you refresh, particularly if it's on an advertising network.

This also seems like an appropriate place to reiterate that Adobe just updated Flash Player to fix highly-critical security vulnerabilities. Don't drag your feet, go get updated. Mac and Linux users, you need this too:

http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/

If you're a Windows user who runs FireFox or another alternate browser, remember that you've got two versions of Flash Player to update, the ActiveX one and the non-ActiveX one, so hit the download page with both IE and your other browser(s).
