AnandTech full of flash filth

I have been a loyal supporter of AnandTech for a long time, sending colleagues links and reading its front page articles everyday. Over the past year and a half, the site has sold its soul to flash-heavy advertisements and other junk. As a result, my browser (Netscape 7.2) slows to a crawl with CPU usage often reaching 95% or more.

AnandTech used to be in my list of startup tabs - no more. This just sucks, and it not worth the everyday headache.

I imagine a lot of other users are wondering why their browsers are slowing down -- well AnandTech could be the reason.

LOL, you're still using Netscape??? Try a real browser before you trash our site.......

Anandtech runs fast and fine on my PC, maybe it's time for an upgrade?

You might want to uninstall Flash if you dislike Flash advertisements that strongly.

You guys are a great example for why AnandTech sucks - remind me again, isn't this "technical support"?

Thanks for the confirmation -- idiots.

So what exactly are you looking for Technical Support with? The fact that your PC is so slow that Flash animations rape the CPU?

BTW, Firefox + AdBlock > you.

onix, you are talking to the wrong people here. The people in the Technical Support forum don't run the AnandTech website, we are here to help people whose computers don't work right. And personally, after five years and over 15000 posts in an attempt to help people who actually need help, I'm not very pleased at being called an idiot by a three-post wonder who shows up in the wrong place to complain about the Macromedia Flash that he installed on his own computer. Chill out, man.

If you want to tell the "right" person, send a PM to Jason Clark, who is the webmaster of AnandTech.com.

I thought it was the Flash that made it suck? In any event, don't pay attention to me, I'm just 1 of nearly 100,000 registered members and found it odd that you picked your first post to flame the site (and in the wrong forum btw) after lurking all this time.

Have a  and welcome to AT😛

Constructive criticism and comments are always welcome. Netscape 7.2 runs one of the latest Mozilla, so I will check out AdBlock.

Is there another alternative to Macromedia Flash which allows more control, especially domain-specific?

Thanks.

Oops. Netscape 7.2 is Mozilla (ver. 1.8, I believe). I use it with the popup blocker set on kill, and it moves at least as fast as IE.

Non popup ads can slow any browser if the ad server is slow, even if the site server isn't loaded down at the moment.

onix -- If you're here for the content, enjoy it. If too many things get in your way, nobody's forcing you to show up.

Use firefox and block the download of images from the non-originating site 😉
