making it not-easily editable will basically kill it imo. it might be a pain, but banning anyone who is screwing around is probably the only way to keep it clean and active
 
Yea making the wiki not editable by anyone goes against the spirit of a wiki. Just ban the morons that can't behave.

And thank you esquared, that was insufferable.

also, I was trying to find a citation (as requested) for the comment on schneiderguy, as I know he has suggested as much himself. ...but after 10 minutes of searching threads with the term "schneiderguy's penis," I realized that my life priorities were out of whack, so I stepped away from the computer.

Yeah, haven't been on to check in a while. That's a TON of spammers 🙁

I disabled account creation for now - going to go into database and clear our all the spam accounts, change the settings for the wiki a bit, and see if I can reopen the site to be edited with stricter policies in place and more tools to quickly remove any spammers. Hopefully will get that done before this weekend.

Not sure it's worth bringing back yet again. When it was open, people kept editing it to write nasty things about moderators, and when it's closed to a few contributors not enough was being updated. 🙁
 
How about making the registration send a PM here? When you register you enter your AT username and it not only sends a confirmation email but also a confirmation PM, and both have to be clicked.

Would need mods' permission to setup a secondary account though, that would be used strictly for the site to send PMs.
