Anandtech Effect: Netflix Steaming people .... come in

I just watched a Documentary. Well, most of it.

This is the Netflix Summary:
This true story follows a biochemist who challenged the Food and Drug Administration for his right to begin clinical trials on a new cancer treatment. In addition to recounting Burzynski's astonishing legal victories in the face of skepticism, this documentary also examines several of his patients and their success in fighting terminal cancer.

Turns out the guy is a quack.

Now for the Netflix Streaming part that ticks me off. This documentary is about cancer. My mom just beat breast cancer. Cancer sucks. The Netflix member reviews are messed up. The film makers are trying to profit off of people with a horrible illness and I am pissed. The top 3 are obviously bull shit and have somehow been rated as "very useful" by hundreds of people.

The useful reviews that pretty much state the truth. That the guy is a quack only have 2 or 3 "Helpful" ratings.

So, please bump up the reviews that point out that this guy is a quack. And 1 star this PoS.

Movie title:
Burzynski

Your Truely,
Everyone that knows someone with cancer.

I was 2 minutes into watching that last week. It was on my queue precisely because of the rating - I'm watching all of the well reviewed documentaries on Netflix, and all thus far have been amazingly inspirational and informative.

2 minutes into that video, though, and red flags were going off in my brain so I googled the case against Burzynski. Glad I stopped watching it at that point.

Instead I ended up watching a program on competing high school jazz bands. Now that was fantastic.

Could you tell me the name of the Jazz documentary.

Anyways, please start bashing this documentary on netflix so lesser smart people are not tricked into watching this garbage.

1 star it and say those reviews are not helpful!

PS: grammer above intnetional. Trying to get some sort of happiness out of this.

Documentaries is one area that streaming is quite up to date with. Senna was added recently. There are a ton of other good ones on there.

Hate to break this to you OP, but the licensing was already paid for. Rating it down and making people not watch it doesn't change the fact that it's already on Netflix.

That's how Netflix used to work. All these price changes occured because the contracts with various studios have changed.

So, the thing i don't know is what the current contracts look like. Nor do I care. There is a moral imperitive to 1 star this.

I watched the first 20 minutes... felt more like an infomercial than a movie. They didn't even TRY to be objective... How can you keep mentioning things like "My doctor didn't want me to get treatment from Burzynski" without trying to TALK to that doctor and find out WHY?

I one starred it for ya, OP.

I'll sell you my one-star for a donation to Child's Play 😉

But seriously, just the fact that the clinical trials require fees from the patients to "cover expenses" is a warning. Most trials are free and will often pay for expenses like travel.

Voted and reviewed.

Holy crap there is a lot of obvious astroturfing going on on the Netflix site. Seriously, 616 of 623 found this review helpful?

There was a OT thread around here a few months ago. Some ATOTer was convinced it was some government/big business conspiracy keeping the drug out of circulation.

If that were to ever come to light as being true, you are going to see alot of murdered CEOs of drug companies.

Was this you? "

This is an infomercial for a quack "doctor" who doesn't operate on the most basic principle of the scientific method. This man is an extortionist who pays to silence his critics."
