Well, Derek did such a comparision by downclocking it to 430/1200. I'd doubt we'll get any different results at 490/1300.

The extra 256MB helps significantly in COD2 and to some extent in DOD:S. The price premium for this card is the 1.1ns memory (512megs of it), cherry-picked/refined core and the cooling solution.

Nvidia hasnt added any new IQ features, so it should be the same as the 256MB GTX.

I'm willing to bet around February/March -06. Because that is probably when ATI will get their R580 to market. This will be a 90nm 32 pipe 10 vertex shader and 16 "Super ROP's", and oh yeah, Low-K. This is just what I have heard. Lemme get you the linky. BRB.

EDIT: Ok, here it is. A good read. Towards the end, the author mentions possible specs for 90nm 7800/7900.

Guru3D is reporting 46dB, although it isn't great its acceptable

Anyways, they also mention HDR+AA, FX series style AF (aka color wheel or angle independent AF), and this is gonig to be NVs first 90nm low k product.

What this means is that this cooler?s loudest level is still only about as loud as the BFGTech GeForce 7800 GTX OC and Radeon X1800 XT?s FIRST level. The GTX-512 core is the same as the 256 core. Thats why a lot of them are available, there is no difference AFAIK (just cherry picked cores from day 1).

If you want to talk architecture then please PM me (dont want to derail the thread here) and no the R520 isn't an overclocked R300/420.

I would advise anyone wanting to talk architecture to post a seperate thread. With the amount of BS I've seen coming from this new poster you are going to want to make certain it has a chance to be openly laughed at by others who can then explain it.

Thanks, I saw that earlier. It looks like this card could be my next upgrade as it appears to be even quieter than a 7800 GTX but it's a lot faster.

Refresh of R580? R580 is designed by a different design ATI team and we don't know anything about the marchitecture and specs of this gpu. All we have is speculation? Not too much offense taken... I think. I hope we can discuss video cards without having to call each other names (ie, 'fanATIc'/'nVidiot') or resorting to FUD (ie, 'even if ATI comes out with a faster card, it'll still suck').

ATI says they've sorted out their 90nm manufacturing problems, so hopefully things will start to turn around in terms of availability and pricing. X1800XLs have already started to come down in price, which is an encouraging sign. If more X1800XTs start showing up this week (like several stores are saying they should), that will be another good sign.

I'm all for bashing a company when they do something incredibly stupid. Bashing ATI because of supply issues stemming directly from technical problems (which they say have already been resolved) is kind of pointless. It's not like they're purposefully doing this.

EDIT: Ok, here it is. A good read. Towards the end, the author mentions possible specs for 90nm 7800/7900.

The 7200/7600 are closer than that, the high end will probably wait for R580.

You can almost bet on a "C51 style" motherboard with a 7000 series IGP.
