I started reading anandtech years ago for the product reviews. Later I discovered great areas like the "hot deals" forum and the benchmarks… Whenever I make a big buy(not found on hotdeals) I always come here first, usually followed by a visit to newegg.com and their reviews.

I try to research everything I buy and I think some of the best reviews on the net are found here. This got me thinking in a class I am taking and I am really interested in what you all think. I made a survey specifically for more informed tech buyers dealing with newegg and reviews sites in general. If you got a few minutes would you fill it out, thanks! Its purely educational(from my University)

Also if anyone wants to talk about why they first started coming to Anantech that would be awesome.

I want my free IPOD!

A couple day ago, I sent this post to Moderator Limbo, where its disembodied soul may well have rested forever.

I then pm'ed the OP, asking that he prove he wasn't a spammer and further prove to me that he'd indeed had some true prior experience with AT, if both were indeed the case.

His reply was chock full of proof on both counts. He provided his full name. He's an MBA student at St. Edwards Universtity in Austin, Texas.

Therefore, this thread is back in play, albeit with 12 other (otherwise understandable) replies like Waggy's above removed.

Participate in this survey if you wish, don't if you don't wish to, just please don't rag on or question the OP further here.

Survey complete.

Does the OP count as an extreme lurker for the purposes of lurker fishing?

My friend told me about the 'hot deals' forum like 10 years ago. I remember joining to post my own hot deal - it was list of coupon codes published in the Wall Street Journal. I knew about the 'no coupon codes' rule, but I thought it would be okay since they were pubished in a national newspaper. The first 10 responses were some variation of "Lock and ban". I edited the post and apologized... and then like 10 posters PM'd me asking me to send them the codes. lol.

I've bought enough off newegg and used this and other sites for informative purchases, I'll take the survey.

Survey completed.

I started coming to Anandtech when I did my first PC build in 2003. I spent a lot of time reading the reviews and eventually found myself in the forums asking specific questions for my build.

I'm taking the survey.

On page two, there are 2 options that are the same question.

To answer your question in the last bit of the original post, I came to Anandtech to use the FS/FT forums.

Thanks Perknose.

Thanks for everyone that looked at the survey, its really helpful to me. Yes I'm a super lurker I guess. I go to St. Edwards in Austin Texas and I have been reading Anandtech reviews for quite a while. I really like the reviews and never really thought about posting all that much.

The reviews are really what got me to make the survey, and yes it does have some design flaws I see. A typical review site is pretty pedestrian and the reviews aren't that in-depth. However on Anandtech some of the technical aspects of the reviews can be over my head at times but I think that is a good thing, it makes me want to learn more. This site has a huge impact on how I purchase electronics.

I guess I see Anadtech as a site that I learn on and Newegg as the site that I purchase most on, because on newegg the product reviews I feel are a little more discerning than your average Amazon or Buy.com review. Its hard sifting through all the reviews of people who simply say, "this product is teh suk!" and then they say nothing more. Well that doesn't help…

I just was wondering how yall do research and I thought they survey would help. I know it's not perfect, but I'm learning! Thanks so much.

I came to anandtech.com back in 2004 to read up-to-date information concerning computer components for a new computer build. Then I read some discussions here about system overclocking. I only became a member when I started to see unanswered questions that I knew the answer to, allowing me to contribute by answering.
