Penny pinchers from around the country post their latest finds in the area of secret discounts, rebates and bill-lowering techniques. Most of the talk centers around electronics and computer-related stuff, though there is plenty of chatter on other things. Fat Wallet has postings from both consumers and businesses about coupons, rebates and other sorts of deals. A recent perusal at Fat Wallet revealed a link to a free video or DVD rental at Blockbuster, a $70 leather chair with free shipping and a 15% coupon code for use at 1800Flowers.com. Often times, when a deal is posted, readers react with even better deals or advice on how to maximize savings. In a thread on Anandtech, users discuss how to traverse Sprint PCS's customer-service line to find a customer-service agent who is empowered to offer the best unpublished cellphone rates. The downside is the sheer volume of postings, which makes finding the best deals a chore. To post messages yourself, you have to register.

It's funny you mention that because it almost happened. I received an odd PM from an ATer who claimed to be a WSJ reporter who's doing a story on the Sprint PCS Hot Deals threads where ATers were negotiating a better rate plan, he asked if he could interview I said sure but I wouldn't be any use since I use VoiceStream Wireless and not Sprint PCS. So I never did get interviewed, oh well, I woulda given major props to AT/FW if I were.

I think he was an actual WSJ reporter because he had a WSJ e-mail address and direct phone number.

I honestly thought He was talkin' about people registering for the WSJonline... I know, I'm a moron. I don't know Y I thot that...but I did. 🙁 Well, does anyone do like counselling for a living or something...I think I've found the root of many of the communications problems between myself and the wife.

I am kind of suprised that they didn't mention the coupon for free underware at the gap that was circulating last week.

That was a hot deal !!!
 
It's too bad that they missed things like free 15" compaQ Monitors, $0.82 DELL Belkin NICs, and $140 WD120GB SE HDs... we'd have 150,000 more members today. 😉 hehehehhe
 
remarkably similar ha! we all know FW started to post coupon codes when AT decided to make that against policy. i assume they started using fusetalk because it was familiar.
