Anand's Ti review is up

Hmm, what happened to all that stuff about more dx 8.1 features? Would have been good to mention them, or the lack of them to at least mock the rumors?

"Would have been good to mention them, or the lack of them to at least mock the rumors?"

It is kind of like the GTS vs the GF1. For the initial round of press the early spins of the GF3 had certain features disabled due to hardware bugs. These were fixed for the final GF3 products but nVidia had already dropped them from the marketing and it appears decided to keep them under wraps until now. You'll likely see something like a "NSR" type marketing campaign although the actual functionality is still the same as the GF3.

Also, it would be hard to comment on DX 8.1 in an official manner when it hasn't shipped yet😉

"You need to look harder this was posted about a half an hour ago😉"

Yes, but we like to stay on topic on this board; those GH guys are kinda weird😉

Sweet the GF3 TI200 looks like the card to buy. First exciting piece of hardware news in awhile.

well written, unbiased as far as I can tell. I agree, on those results, the Geforce 3 Ti 200 is the best to get, if you can get those prices!

otherwise (up here in Canada), if the 8500 can compete regularly with the Geforce 3 Ti 500, or normal GF3, it's the card to buy, with a price about $125 less than any normal GF3 currently, it could be the card everyone up here buys, depending of course, on the drivers!

I cant wait for the 8500. He makes it sound like it'll spank the GeForce3 Ti 500. Or at least that it has more memory bandwidth.

I need a new video card soon, but I'll wait this out as long as I can. My KyroII is doing it's job.

<edit>This is the card to get. I need a new TV Tuner anyhow. And ATi's picture quality seems to be much better than nVidia's.

<< I cant wait for the 8500. He makes it sound like it'll spank the GeForce3 Ti 500. Or at least that it has more memory bandwidth. >>

He likes to drop stuff like that though. I thought he was implying that the nforce would spank the the kt266a last time, twasn't so though. I think it just made a catchy ending to his piece, that's why he did it.

It fashionable to spank Nvidia in reviews these days:

"The Nvidia GeForce 4 is a nice card, but it can't cure cancer and replicate endless qualities of pizza. The new Radeon 960,000,000 has more bandwidth on paper and if the drivers come thru, should bring peace to the galaxy and cost $50 less. Nvidia is suck."

Bigf deal. When the Radeon 8500 comes out, we'll see what's what. (Remember the 3dfx fiends who kept shrieking, "Rampage will oWn3rZ j00!!!" Where are THEY now?)

Defref, no-one is talking like that.

what you might be seeing, is that people are looking forward to the battle between these two companies, becuase no-one knows who will win (even if the victory is just temporary).

ATi is considered the underdog in most people's minds (due to the drivers mostly), so if they're able to topple the king of the hill, nVidia, I'd have to say that's interesting. after all, there were lots of nVidia followers when nVidia was not top dog (thinking TNT vs dual Voodoo 2 days), who most likely followed the war between nVidia and 3dfx religiously and most likely, felt the same way ATi followers now feel.

no doubt you felt the same thing about a company before, after all, you're defending nVidia so violently - (Remember the 3dfx fiends who kept shrieking, "Rampage will oWn3rZ j00!!!" Where are THEY now?) - as if you helped defeat 3dfx (and perhaps you in some minor way did). take a deep breath, and realize that you're not going to die, even if the Radeon 8500 somehow manages to tie the nVidia's GF3 Ti 500 in performance.

As nForce proved, specs do not equal real world performance. ON PAPER, it ruled of Via, but in the final analysis, it's a close 2nd.

Now, the GF3Ti 500 is the fastest thing on the block, but it's become such a foregone conclusion that Nvidia would be the fastest, I detect a lot of "Radeon 8500" is gonna OWN j00 Nvidiots. Of course, these same people know damn well that "ATI" stands for "Really Dicey Drivers". ON PAPER, it should beat up on Nvidia, but until they unload to FINAL goods, it's only vapor. We have yet to see.

If the R8500 tops the GF3Ti500, I hope that a price war breaks out and users can pick the most whallop per dollah that suits themselves.

Intersting, personally I've heard many more people saying the Ti500 is going to smack the Radeon8500 silly and the R8500 will barely match a Ti200 then have said the R8500 will outperform a Ti500... I've only noticed a very small handful of p[eople that thing the R8500 will be tops.

"Overall, I'll stick with my GeF3 (no Ti500 for me) and I'll think about upgrading when the GeF4's are out next spring. Unless the 8500 has anything to say about it."

Same here, my VT GF3 runs 245/550 w/o a hiccup..

Time too wait for the GF4...

I'm not sure what my move is going to be. I've got a 18-month old GF2GTS and it still runs everything OK. I'd LIKE TO upgrade, but it's not a burning need for me at the moment. I'm gonna wait a while, see what shakes out.

Just an observation:

Why are they still testing the Kyro II? Especially when this is a more of a newer card review, and consiting of the best of ATi and nVidia.

Aunix: not to mention some of them scores are much lower than what I get on my t-bird. I think Anand testing procedures need some improving

<< Aunix: not to mention some of them scores are much lower than what I get on my t-bird. I think Anand testing procedures need some improving >>

Thats also part of the thing.

If you look @ my system, I only have a 1GHz box. But my scores are noticeably (sp?) higher than the ones posted.

It just makes the Kyro look worse than it is. And also when being paired up with the "big hitters" for a review, is not cool.

It provides a baseline. Why do you care anyway? The 64meg radeon and the Ge2Pro are included and both of which are much older than the K2.
