Anand's IDF report: Part 1

yeah I just read that.. pretty interesting.

I notice that Intel has decided to pimp RDRAM as much as possible, and to make DDR SDRAM look bad, I just hope AMD can release higher FSB solutions (low FSB and memory bandwidth still kills it), to compete before it's too late this year..

only read half of it, but will continue once i fifnish tests and asssignments

it seems that rdram will be hear to stay for long, thats not too bad considering that the performance of it will be accounteed by the companies to make it better

Not IF, but when Adul... but with the performace of the current P4 why would you want one?

I'd be more interested in an overclockable dual Duron/T-Bird board, two 1.2 Ghz T-Birds OC'd to 1.4 with two FOP-38's running... woooo...

😉

anybody would want a duel 1.2 tbird over a 1.5p4, but the p4's are supposedly goin 2-2.5ghz, and i dont think a 1.2tbird can hang with that

Ahem.. I stand corrected by Anand's own report...

<< The Pentium 4 is strictly a uni-processor CPU, meaning that it won't even work in a multiprocessor board, Intel made it very certain that only Foster would be used in the server market. We all expected Foster to be called the Pentium 4 Xeon, much like how the Pentium III Xeon was named after its desktop father, the Pentium III. However in an unexpected but highly foreshadowing move, Intel has decided to call the Foster nothing other than the Intel Xeon. >>

Which means, my Dual Proc Board currently holding two P3 750's will be the last of it's kind for pentium processors...

And i'd still take the dual T-Birds any day if I were forced to buy it. Might save over $1000 which I could use for that GF3 card!

RDRAM doesn't look so bad on the P4. I still think Rambus (bunch of lawyers) need to get summarily executed, but the RAM type RDRAM is actually showing to be pretty useful with a P4.

Dual channel DDR200 would work as well, but that would require 4 times as many data pins.

Another quote

<< We've heard countless times from Intel that their DDR focus will primarily be for servers, yet Intel does not have a single DDR chipset in their product line. With the Intel Xeon being launched next quarter, and it being a server part, does anyone see a problem with this? >>

That is where the server works chipset comes to play.

I was just wondering how intel could ignore a dual processor market iwth their p4. It seem to be only Xeon territory now. And yes I would rather have a dual proc AMD system myself.

The bird will not be at 1.2 Ghz when a 2 GHz p4 comes out.
