That doesn't even make sense. Fell for the larger ad? That would only be the case if the larger ad actually got someone to click on the ad. Who is truly the simpleton: the person that noticed the much larger ad or the person who didn't even notice the change?

Both assumptions are inaccurate.

Marketing is in part about recognition and standing out in the field, which the ad did. When I first saw the ad, I recognized the ploy and disregarded it. I have never clicked through on an ad. and likely never will.

Ditto. Between the expoilts, the sometimes odd bugs, and now this, I'm switching to FF.

Same question, where can I find Adblock? I didnt know there was such a thing, I cant recall any popups, but I still get all the ads.

I didn't mind the old banners, but the new one really give the forum a sellout look.

Well those of you who are against the ads and think Craig is all a decent person who is refusing to make with the ads, I think you are wrong.

The last time I check he only had around 15 or so employees (I am pretty sure I am off in numbers so don't quote me on that, but the number of employees is fairly small). He was making $7 million a year just from employers in one state who wanted to post their job postings on his site. Then he expanded his site to more states, which means that he is probably making around $20 million right now.

What else does he have to do? All he does is administrate his site, answer questions to the press (he is getting quite popular), and basically manage the employees.

What does people at Anandtech do? They follow up on latest technology trends. They work day and night to bring informative and in-depth reviews and I am pretty sure AnandTech is only making around $1.5 to $2 million a year. With this money, Anand has to feed 20+ editors + maintain his site + follow-up on companies + follow on latest technology trends + and write like a mad dog to give us correct info. This goes for all his editors as well.

I hate poker ads myself but if it supports AnandTech then I don't think I am going to go blind if I have to watch the poker ad for a few times. Ever wonder why Anandtech has so many ads, it is because people block ads and Anandtech has to use more page space to add more ads so that their revenue doesn't go down.

Those of you who are really happy that Craig doesn't have ads because he wants to keep his site clean for his "visitors" are in a mist. That is just a marketing fluff that is he following to make himself look good infront of the media and his users. He is already making millions of dollars and I don't think adding 2 million dollars is going to add much to the amount he is making right now.

I don't mind the ads and I think other people should not compare two completely different publications because AnandTech obviously puts in more hardwork and man hours than Craigslist.

I hate the poker ads for one simple reason. That they keep banning/locking people who talk about gambling.

thats it. not that its huge and ugly. Just that they are hypocrites. They say we can't have post about gambling with real money to protect the young people on the board.

BUT they have that ugly fricken ads at the top.

If they don't want post about money fine that is NOT a problem. BUT then don't go and have that crap at the top. Every time i see it i lose more respect for the people in charge of the forums.

Yeah, I hate the poker ads myself but I was just referring to the people who block all ads on AnandTech or the sites they visit. I block all pop-up ads and pop-unders, but the regulars don't bother me.

Folks, please forgive me. Take a close look at when I joined. It WAS new to me. I reacted according to a first-time experience and thought it was less than amusing. I do have a life away from Anandtech, and this helps to contribute to some Anand-ignorance on my part. Please have tolerance for people showing the slightest bit of ignorance.

Thraxen, the larger ad comment may have been what I observed without clicking on it. Its really a two-piece ad. One portion in slim banner form and the other an up-right portrait syle about 3x as tall as the slim banner portion. If I were at home i would take a screen capture and show and tell. :)

We know what you are talking about. It is probably a flaw in their ad management system and the system is accidently displaying the wrong sized ads at the wrong location.
