It softens the clothing w/out adding oil which makes the clothing less flammable and better at wicking away moister.

I know GeekBabe just sold me some crystals (which isn't usually my thing, because I didn't even buy tanzenite when I had such a good deal on it on that cruise ship!)

At first I was skeptical about trying the crystals but figured that since I have to add laundry soap at the start of the load that adding the crystals wasn't a big deal. I think they leave my clothing soft, static free and unlike regular softeners they don't break down the fabric.

Done, BUT this got me thinking. As far as oil goes, it seems the primary focus on decreasing oil dependency is with the internal combustion engine. Anyone know how products such as these (fabric softener WTF?) that traditionally use petroleum in some fashion makeup the oil market? In other words, I guess I am wondering how much of a given barrel of oil goes to making gasoline, vs making consumer products.
