What is with all the ad hate? Would you guys want to pay for these? Probably not. Oh, so you want them to make them for free! I'll pass that along...

I listen to a ton of podcasts, most of them sponsored, and none of them have anywhere near the obnoxious advertising of the TWiT network.

I actually like Leo but he has taken his advertising too far and even without the ads, he wastes a lot of time on his show. I only have a limited amount of time to listen to podcasts and sorry Leo, but the TWiT network isn't the only content I want to listen to.

I have the same issue with Leo. He just meanders the entire show. He goes off topic and lets the show go offtrack. It's his style and show, obviously a lot of people like it, but if I wanted to hear a bunch of old people talk about nothing in particular I would subscribe to a wine podcast. Probably less stealth ads too.

I would have no problem if he would just run pre-recorded spots. Instead, he goes for these lame stealth ads like in olde tyme radio where the host talks about the product, free form. Most of the ads are short, but the audible.com ad is totally obnoxious and just goes on and on.

Totally lame.

Y'all making it like it sound lime it's a giant ad fest. Twit is typically 2 hours long... 10 or fifteen minutes spread over 2 hours isn't unreasonable.

But the other point is that the show should only be 20-30 minutes long, but he wastes A LOT of time talking about nothing.

^^^ what he says.

The dude makes shit tons of money combined with his wife's income.

well he's one of the few potentially cash positive podcasts.

and he spends all day doing that sh*t, so its not as if he's lazy.

sure he's basically doing a radio format, basically live and unedited, bit whup, if you don't like it dont listen.

some of his shows are pretty decent, security now, sometimes this week in law and computer hardware. but yes some are lame like the open source one and such, when theres little material they are just treading water filling dead air. but with podcasts..you just hit next and skip it, so big deal. itsnot like it costs you anything. if he charged per download then yes, it would be an issue, but he doesn't.

as for the twit with anand, lol, the iphone bashers wouldn't like that one.

anyways, theres always the fast forward button, and time stretching. listening to podcast on 1x is just not worth the time.

He's actually not drawing a direct salary from the TWiT network anymore. There's a sort of donation for Leo where you pay him what you want to pay and that's his only source of income from TWiT. Of course, he still has a weekly radio show so he still has a real income source but none of the ads benefit him.

I actually like him and Paul in the Windows Weekly podcast. It wanders but it's usually on the topic of Microsoft and not twitter or facebook or whatever. I don't see a problem with the audible ad either. One of them will recommend an interesting book during the ad so I'm not opposed to getting some good picks to put on my reading list.

Personally, I find Dvorak grating and dislike how he's almost trying to constantly prove a point. I tried listening to the Cranky Greeks podcast and I couldn't stand it.

Glad I'm not the only one. I have learned not to listen to his retarded predictions and constant negativity about new things, because he is invariably wrong. His most famous being:

"The Macintosh uses an experimental pointing device called a ‘mouse’. There is no evidence that people want to use these things."

lol, yeah, there's being wrong and there's being "holy shit you were way off."

I guess I like Paul Thurrott's attitude about the future of the tech industry the best out of all of tech podcasters. Using his connections at Microsoft he lays out what he thinks Microsoft is up to or the industry in general. He's also really not that fanboi-ish about Microsoft. He's more than happy to crap on a poor product or a bad decision they made.

Windows Weekly is my top source of Apple news 😀 Leo's obvious mancrush for Paul is a little more than disturbing though D:

Do you listen to TWiT? It's extremely hard to tell where the ads begin and end. Sometimes they will finish an ad, only to bring it back up a minute or two later and keep it running for another 5 mins. Sometimes the ads go for literally 10-15 minutes.

Pretty much every week and I've never heard one that goes for 15 minutes. Some go a little longer but it seems like that only happens when ne of the guests chimes in. Could be planned but honestly I don't really care. The ads just don't bother me. Perhaps it's because I'm so accustomed to listening to sports talk where you have at least 5 minutes of ads for every 10-15 minutes of talk.

I'm listening to it right now and besides the sponsors mentioned in the intro the first ad is just happening now, about 1/3 of the way into the 2 hour show. It's a scripted ad, about 1 min long. Not a big deal.

PS - Anand is geeking out a bit too much.
