Analyst: $100 PS3 price cut "in the next couple of days"

LOL. This would be too funny if it were true. That's it, Sony, add more confusion to the mix.

We had a thread here several weeks ago discussing the PS3's hardware revisions, deletions and price cuts. Me and and few others were wondering what would be the next piece of tech to disappear from their units.

However, I don't think they'd follow through with this hardware deletion. Nobody would be able to play any games on it; not even PS2 titles. It would be an expensive PS1 with the ability to download and play games.

Anywho, I am SO glad I bought a 80GB MGS4 bundle if this speculation comes to fruition.

I suppose that they could always drop the BR-D drive and then put out an add-on BR-D drive (ala the 360's HD-DVD drive).

In fact, that would be an interesting path for a future console to go down. You buy a basic console with the processing hardware, networking hardware, and a small amount of flash for cheap. Want optical disc games? Buy the eSATA optical disc add-on, or some certified third-party external drive. Want to do DVR? Buy the USB-connected dual-tuner device. Want memory card support? Buy the card reader. Want a larger hard drive? Buy an external hard drive and plug it in the eSATA port. Obviously, there are some issues with this model, but it would be nice to customize the console to your own specifications.

Just an idea.

PS3 is worth every penny they are asking for. The amount of value in this system is phenomenal and I can't believe how polished it is (software) not even mentioning the amount of untapped potential. Xbox=PC and PS3=MAC...if Apple were to have made the PS3 it would have outsold xbox and maybe even nintendo but nope sony did it and sony has a bad wrap as trying to convert everyone to their proprietary.

I hate sony, just to make things clear, I just love my PS3, I also have an original xbox. I really want the PS3 to be affordable because I'm sick and tired of all the good rpgs being released on xbox first and then 9-12months later on ps3, (maybe it is a coding issue).

Oh and funny time

People aren't buying PS3's because of it's price, not because it's Sony. You realize how many PS1's and PS2's they've sold in the past 13-14 years, don't you? You should also realize that using PC's and Mac's as an analogy is kinda weird, seeing as to how it doesn't make any sense whatsoever....

Yes I know how well the PS2 is still performing, I attribute that fact to being why they took BC out of current gen PS3s. (current Gen PS3s are fully capable of playing PS2 games and this will most likely be activated by sony with an update some years down the road.)

Sony has hired numerous product consultants and asked them all the same question: How do we beat Apple?

My analogy was that alone Sony is the Apple of the console market. Not that they have always been in this position but Microsoft has clearly stolen the highest percentage of their market share from what would have been Playstation customers.

No offense...but you are just not on my level of thinking.

Value is relative. Sure, the PS3 has a lot of theoretical power. A lot of that remains untapped because of the difficulty in programming the PS3. For all intents and purposes, it's equal to the Xbox 360.

While there are a lot of features to the PS3 the fact that people feel it is too expensive should tell you something about how the general public cares about all of it's processing power and other capabilities.

Yes the PS3 has a lot of potential but all of that added "value" has added a huge increase in price. Consumers are voting with their dollars and saying that the added "value" is not worth it to them. The price of the PS3 is way too high for a video games console.

Backwards compatibility was taken out of the PS3 to cut cost. Not because the PS2 was doing so well. features (your so called value) was removed from the PS3 because they added so much crap to the PS3 that the PS2 compatibility chips were one of the things they could remove that would not affect the PS3 from playing Blu-Ray (huge huge added cost) or games (Cell CPU).

To suggest that the PS2 compatibility was removed from the PS3 because the PS2 is still doing so well is ludicrous. Being backwards compatible with PS2 is a selling point and adds "value." Something you praised the PS3 of having plenty of previously. It was a cost cutting move because the PS3 was overpriced as a games console. Plain and simple.

Sony is indeed the "Apple" of many industries. Overpriced products with dubious added value and a fanatical fanbase.

Your comments show a severe lack of understanding of what constitutes true value as well as some of the business decisions that lead to the PS3 removing features to cut costs. For you to then go ahead and insult someone else on their ability to think is absurd. Not to mention that last line basically is implying the other guy, peritusONE, is an idiot.

PS2 emotion chip being removed=cut cost...PS2 software emulation-no reason to remove this

Thank you

He's not an idiot, don't call him that. To say he wasn't on my level of thinking means he isn't following what I am trying to explain. I guess I should add more smileys 😱
