Paul Ryan announced this morning that he's cashing out and heading for a country with a non-extradition treaty before Republicans finish imploding the country.

Well, OK, I might be paraphrasing Ryan's retirement announcement a bit.

Just a bit.

The thing is, rats are survivors and smart enough to get the hell off the ship before it goes down. But in the end, they're still rats.

And there ain't a bigger bunch of rats than Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell and the rest of these diseased vermin who've been enabling the madman in the White House for the last year. When this is over, whenever happens, there will be no one more directly responsible for the destruction of the nation we once knew than Ryan and McConnell.

And today? The President of the United States has been rage tweeting for 3 hours. His comments can be summed up as: If you would just stop investigating me, I wouldn't have to start World War III! THIS IS YOUR FAULT! ALL YOUR FAULT! NOW WE ALL HAVE TO BURN! I HOPE YOU'RE HAPPY!

Again, I might be paraphrasing just a bit.

Russia seems to be on Trump's mind this morning -- or whatever he uses in place of a mind anyway. He started out in Ukraine and managed to work his way around to blaming Obama for his own shitty foreign ... I was going to say "policy" but that would imply an actual structured plan and a vision of some kind. Lets just go with blaming Obama for his current problems and leave it at that.

Then, right in the middle is this beauty: "Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria. Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and 'smart!' You shouldn’t be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!"

Trump apparently thinks cruise missiles are "nice and new and smart!" and I'm not even sure if that's the most insane part of his comment or the bit right before it where he tells Russia to "get ready." Back in 2013, Trump was all in a lather over Obama (supposedly) telegraphing his intentions to our adversaries. Now? Get ready, Russia. Get ready.

"Our relationship with Russia is worse now than it has ever been, and that includes the Cold War. There is no reason for this. Russia needs us to help with their economy, something that would be very easy to do, and we need all nations to work together. Stop the arms race?"

He's utterly out of his depth. He has absolutely no grasp of foreign policy. He has no understanding of America's adversaries at all, and he's gotten rid of anyone in his administration that does. He's literally reduced to begging Russia to "stop the arms race" on Twitter.

He started out this morning by claiming he was "very calm and calculated" and then spent the next three hours raging like a lunatic.

He protests "fakes news" and then immediately proves it true. Every time.

He claims to be a "stable genius" and every single day proves he is an irrational ignoramus.

His unhinged lunacy this morning is no doubt a result of the FBIs raid on Michael Cohen's office yesterday. He's mad and scared and feeling persecuted. And yeah, you know, I get it. It's personal for him. But a real leader, a real president, a real adult, is able to separate his personal problems from his professional obligations. A true leader leads by example, no exceptions, no excuses, no days off. The president of the United States can't have a bad day.

This guy has a bad day EVERY day.

Our Founders weren't idiots. They expected this. They planned for it. They anticipated an idiot for a president, an ego maniac, a selfish spoiled child. They expected it because they'd just won their freedom from a madman -- quite literally.

They designed our government so that CONGRESS would hold such an lunatic in check.

Our Founders weren't idiots, but they were naive.

They had a much higher expectation of their descendants' sense of citizenship, civic duty, and intellect than we as a nation deserve. There are consequences to elections. There are consequences when you don't show up for elections. When you throw your vote away. When you don't have a grasp of your oiwn civic duty enough that you can't or won't decide. Trump is one of those consequences, oh yes, but worse -- FAR worse -- is the failure to show up in 2012 and 2014. THAT dereliction of citizenship resulted in a congress that is now utterly incapable of meeting its primary responsibility to the Republic.

And our very nation, everything we hold dear, is in jeopardy as a result.

But disaster is NOT inevitable.

We can change the course of our future.

Paul Ryan is the latest in a record number of Republicans who've announced they are leaving congress in 2018. Rats jumping into the sea with their mouths full of cheese. Some of the very worst are leaving or have already jumped, Barton, Chaffetz, Chochran, Corker, Farenthold, Duncan, Dent, Flake, Franks, Goodlatte, Gowdy, Harper, Frelinghuysen, Hatch, Hensarling, Issa, Jenkins, Johnson, LoBiondo, Meehan, Murphy, Poe, Reichert, Rooney, Ros-Lehtinen, Royce, Shuster, Smith, Strange, Tiberi, Trott. It's not just congress, it's also the state governments from dogcatcher to governor. THOSE are the people who appoint the electors to the Electoral College.

Elections have consequences. Good and terrible. If you don't show up, you voted for terrible. But, if you show up, you can win. See Alabama and Pennsylvania for examples.

We CAN change the course of our future.

Disaster is NOT certain.

Even if we can't get this fool of a president out of office before his term, we can reestablish the checks and balances that limit his power and that will hold him to account.

But you have to SHOW UP.

Yes, the game is rigged. The odds are stacked. The choices are not going to be what you want them to be. Tough shit. Tough. Shit. Too bad. It's time to stop whining and soldier. The universe isn't fair -- just ask Trump. But if you want to change it, then you have to win FIRST.

This is the moment. This is the pivot on which history turns, right here, right now.

If you show up, then you can change the future.

But you have to show up.

I don't think Trump is going to make it to midterms without facing charges.

Let's hope not. Because this is getting really bad now.

And I'm 50 years old. Shit doesn't shock me like it used to, but this is bad... really bad.

This is the "new normal" that Trump's supporters and ~80% of the Repub Party approve of folks. Keep that in mind as Trump's train wreck in a shit-storm of an administration disintegrates before their eyes and they're still going to think everything is just fine and dandy at 1600 Penn. Ave.

Ryan and 30+ Repubs are abandoning ship (normal?). The Mueller team has convicted or turned members/former members of Trump's team and some of them are blabbing their guts out to Mueller about Trump's dealings with the Russians (normal?). Comey is coming out with a book that will skewer Trump for what Trump did to him.(normal?) Trump's most trusted lawyer had his offices and home raided by the FBI in relation to the Stormy Daniel controversy and whatever else they may (will) find in his dealings with Trump.(normal?) Trump is going head-hunting after his own hand-picked people over at Justice and the FBI because they're merely doing the job they swore to do. (normal?) Record turnover of admin. personnel. (normal?) A gutted cabinet and regulatory agencies that were disemboweled so that our robber barons and assorted banksters and corporate crooks can run wild with reckless abandon again just like they did when Bush 43/Cheney did the same exact thing with disastrous results.

And all this is just the tip of the tippy top of the sordidly laced crippling iceberg that the Trump team has unleashed on the nation. Yet, 80+% of Repubs think he and his lapdog Repub led legislature is doing a really good job.

Think about that when November comes around and we're all voting for the next reload of our legislature.

Yes but this is what we all deserve for having the poor judgement of voting for a Black.
