<< fine then analogue=degrade
dvi =bit for bit perfection
>>

That's quite obvious.
How much of a downgrade is it though? Worth the extra hundred or two hundred bucks? I'm just looking for something to hold me over until the 17" and 18" LCD's come down in price. Don't plan on sticking with the 15" for that long.
I just need something to stop these headaches without breaking the bank.

the difference depends on the lcd in question, some are better then others, so your going to have to actually read reviews to answer your questions.

I've read about 30 reviews on a dozen or so different LCDs. Also read on how LCDs were made, how Analog isn't as good as DVI, blah blah.
I'm wanting something from first hand user experience. Someone who gets to use one day in and day out. Someone who's played with both Analog and Digital.
From what I've read at CNET, the KDS Rad-5 gives you great image quality at a great price even though it's Analog. Which is why I'm currently close to buying it.

it isn't size of lcd monitors that you should be concerned w/ but resolution. you want to run your lcd monitor in its native resolution. anything else gives you less than ideal results.

you are comparing 19" crt vs 15" lcd, but shouldn't you be looking at the resolution your 19" crt was in? if you had the crt at 1920 x ??? then very few LCD's will come close to this. my 17" dell LCD is native 1024 x 768.

so that's a lotta real estate, even tho the 17" lcd is supposed to be about the same as a 19" crt. not really true.

yup some 15" dell laptops have 1600x1200 displays.. thats sweet:) course optimally you'd have a 17"-19" desktop ver with 1600x1200 atleast. i know those sgi ones do, but they cost an assload. there was refurb sgi in hotdeals a little while ago but i missed the deal:(

I run my 19" at 1024x768. I don't know why but that's what I've had it at for a couple years now. The Rad-5 runs native resolution is 1024x768 so I think I'll be fine.
Would still like to know about the DVI and Analog thing though :(

I got a 15" Viewsonic LCD for my daughter at college, the little I used it I was favorably impressed. It didn't have DVI (at least that I knew about) and very little gaming done on it. Didn't see any blur on it in limited testing.

BTW, it appears to me that LCD prices are dropping fast. If you can hold off for six months or so, you will probably get an awesome LCD for a very nice price. I suspect that they are going to be the standard monitor in a year or two. Our big and clumsy CRTs will seem like 1950's cars-big old dinosaurs.

That's what I'm thinking. I need an LCD now before my eyes are shot. I can't stand the headaches any longer either. I'm going for the 15" for now and then if/when those prices on the 17" LCDs fall I'll pick up one of those.

Thanks for the info Thump, that's what I was looking for :)

I ran my 19" at 1152x864 for about a week or so and didn't like it. I don't have the need for anymore space so I why change something that I'm comfortable with? :)

One additional point I forgot to make-you should fiddle with your settings when you first get the LCD. Use some tuning programs, etc. The one I got improved enormously with some fine tuning. If you can dig up the thread (Hotdeals-Dell-Viewsonic VG150 I think is the model) buried in the middle of it are some links for programs to calibrate the monitor.

Also, you may want to ask your question in the Video forum-a lot of people there really know their stuff.
