Analog DVI problems

Hello everyone.

I've got a 19" viewsonic VA912b. It can take both DVI and analog inputs. I've been running it on the DVI for years now and recently I built myself a new rig.

The new video card only spits out DVI but for some reason my monitor doesn't want to play nice. I can only get it to work using the analog input on my flatscreen and a analog to dvi adapter on my video card. I'd like to use my DVI to DVI cable, but no luck. Monitor always spits out (no digital signal).

I know the cable's good since I've been using it for years.

My video card is an ATI HD4850 from powercolor. I'm using the std catalyst drivers.

Another thing I found weird is typically on boot up I've found the video card will detect the max res of the monitor, and it's not. It's as though it can't detect the monitor at all and it's just using the standard monitor drivers.

I'm gonna poke around some more to see if I can find some monitor drivers, but I'm at a bit of a loss. Any advice?

Does your monitor work with DVI just to get into the BIOS and stuff? Shows the boot screens? If so then it has nothing to do with Windows or drivers, and is a hardware/cable problem. Cables *can* go bad...

If you can see BIOS and boot screens fine, but it doesn't work in Windows, then look at drivers.

The monitor does not work with DVI to get to the BIOS. Gotta be a hardware problem.

I just tested the DVI cable with another computer and my old monitor. Cable's fine. Son of a $#@# I hate getting new hardware that's DOA. Think I should return it to newegg or try working with the vendor, "PowerColor" ?

There are different flavors of DVI, that I would have to go look up to give you the specifics on. But there's a chance your cable is not up to snuff in regards to the DVI signal your card is putting out, or something to that effect. That's a bit of a longshot, but may be worth your researching before you RMA just to be sure.
