With my DirecTv the only artifacts I see is when it loses signal due to weather or stupid planes that fly a route over my house. In the Bay Area the rain and weather arent even a issue, so sometimes it's just a plane everyonce and awhile. Also the channel changing is very fast for me.

I think the positives of digital cable outweigh the negatives.

Positives:
- Many more channels offered
- On-demand premium and ppv channels
- 5.1 surround sound
- On-screen programming guide <-- greatest feature
- Better parental controls

Negatives:
- Slower channel changing
- Artifacts on screen
- Larger and hotter cable boxes
- Slightly higher price

Amen to the on-screen program guide. That negates the slow channel-changing for me. When I had digital cable, I'd "channel surf" using the program guide, and change to a channel if I liked what was on it. So I didn't change channels nearly as often.
