If you think Hayden was bad, remember the child actor who played super-young Anakin? He was 100x worse. Should of been played by Haley Joel Osmend. As for the not so-young version of Anakin, I dunno really. Matt Damon was too old for it then probably.

The scripts of the all Star Wars movies sucked. Luke Skywalker in the original movie was a whiney bitch.

The action and special effects have always been the main reason to watch a Star Wars movie.

hard to say, I think the whole 1-3 series got off on the wrong foot by starting off with Anakin as a kid and making a movie that was so different from any other star wars movie.

Add to that the fact that, as young as she really is, it was damn near impossible for Natalie Portman to pull off looking like a young queen when she first met Anakin, then an older one when he was grown up. Possibly an older kid as the younger Anakin would've made that more believable, since that kid looked (to me) to be about 7 years old, max.......but Natalie sure didn't seem to be 10-12 years older in the 2nd prequel than she was in the 1st.

I honestly don't know enough young actors to answer who might've made a better Anakin adult, but I think with some real direction and acting lessons, Hayden could've done a much better job. My favorite part to pick on is after his mother dies, when he slays the raiders who kidnapped and killed her. They show him in a so-called rage just before the slaughter begins, but instead of looking like someone whose mother just died sending him into a homicidal rage, Hayden (imho) looked more.......constipated!

I liked the actors the way they were. It was the writing that sucked balls. Like whoever said before, you can polish a turd all you want but it's still a turd.

I also enjoy them now. Hayden did the best with what he was given. You can't fault him for that.

I don't think the scripts of the three prequles were any worse, or any more hokey, than the original trilogy. Hayden Christensen is a terrible actor. Every role I've ever seen him in he's the definition of wooden. Anakin's role needed someone prone to rage, not someone prone to menstruation.

Hayden and the kid in the first one were both terrible. The little kid couldn't act, and looked wrong for the role. Hayden played Anakin as too big of a pussy, especially in episode 2. I can't believe that such a weiner could become Vader. They did pretty good casting Qui Gon, Obi Wan (forget hair was terrible though) and the rest of the Jedis though. Natalie Portman wasn't bad, just don't think the script was tailored to her as well as it should have been.

i'm not sure the problem was Hayden Christensen.

it's a very complex role. he's super-talented, both at technology &
martial arts. he falls in love with the queen. then he is corrupted
by Sith #1. all in the space of 2 movies.

getting to the climax, from a philosophical point of view - how &
why does a good person go bad ? his body & will are broken,
somehow he becomes loyal to Sith #1.

He could become Vader because he changed. I think it was actually alright.. because it really highlighted his transformation from the pussy into the hardass all powerful Darth Vader after all the crap that happened.
