An832 sli deluxe....EZ Plug

OK, what is this EZ Plug, what does it do, and how do you use it? I have an Antec True Power 2.0 550 W, and no mention in it's instructions. Do you simply plug into the 4 prong power plugs?

You're supposed to use it if you're using two video cards(SLI). It's supposed to help provide a stable voltage to the video cards. But it can't hurt to plug it in even w/ one card.

its for pci express cards which dont have the pci express power connector

you are not meant to just plug anything in - unless your card doesnt have the 6 pin connector on the card

Myself and many others always have the EZ-plug connected, never had any issues.

What difference does it make with it plugged or unplugged in with one card?

I'm more concerned about accidental voltage surges or something that could fry it if I had it plugged in mine. (Then again, i don't know much about the mechinacs behind computers...i just know they work 🙂)

Mine's plugged in as well with a single card. I figured it would be easier to route the cable where it needed to be before I tied all the cables down. I'd hate to get the second card and then have to pull all my cables apart again.

well, my A8N32 sli deluxe has that "EZ Plug" thingy, and another 4 pin plug labled 12VDC up near the CPU. I plugged one of the 4 pin drive connectors into the EZ Plug, and the PSU had a 4 pin plug with 2 yellow and 2 black wires,(assumed these to be 12 VDC) which I plugged into that 12 VDC connector.
I also plugged the 6 pin plug into the BFG 7800 GT.
I have an Antec 550 W True Power 2.0 PSU.
So, do I now have all my bases covered?
I'm almost scared to power this beast up!!!!

if you are running SLI (2 video cards), then plug a molex (4 pin, same as hdd / cd rom power) connector into it. If you are just running 1 video card, then don't bother with it. It's meant to be used for 2 video cards (to make it more stable)...

EDIT - Yes, the 4 pin thing on ur PSU goes into the 4 pin thing on ur motherboard, and the 6 pin goes into the back of your video card. Since you're only using one 7800gt, leave the 4 pin molex OUT of the EZ plug, don't use it... it's not necessary..

look guys this is all much ado about nothing - but for the people who havent read the manual yet heres a direct quote

"make sure to connect the EZPlug when using two pci express graphics cards and a 20-pin ATX power supply unit, or if the graphics cards do not have auxillary power plugs"

thats on the bottom pof page 2-1

so if you have a good psu which already has a 24 pin main connector then you are okay without it and also if your cards have the pci-e connector then you are okay without it as well

it wont cause issues if you do have it plugged in but its not essential - nowadays most high end cards will have the relevant connectors and also most newer psu's are the 24 pin type - so quit worrying 😉
