There have been a few heated words... and a few who've stomped off in a huff.
Suffice it to say that words never hurt anyone - and those who quit over them, were never committed to begin with.
Make no mistake. TA plays to win. We play on a level playing field, but if you present the opportunity to level you with a body-check... then bear down - because... it's coming.
In the grand scheme of things - did any of the "hurt feelings" and stomping around make any difference? Not likely.
Hardly something to toss threats around over. Perhaps instead of quitting - making some use of one's organizational skills to mount a challenge would be more productive.
Whether you're a stats-whore, a scientist, or just a team player -- this is all good for the projects. Keeping it in perspective would help those who are given to an overabundance of emotion, and "hurt feelings."
Those who will motivate others will do so with a variety of angles. What works... works, and let's face it -- those headed for the top - do what works.
So will any of this matter in the long run? Maybe. When the neutrino factory goes "live" - the results generated for whatever reason will play a part in it's success. That... gentlemen -- is reason enough to endure whatever meaningless "stuff" that goes on in the background. I do it for the stats. Others do it for the science -- and still others do it for the cameraderie. The neat thing is, we're ALL doing it for the right reasons.
There have been "worse" clashes in TA's past. The DPC - who were a "hated" enemy - turned out to be a staunch ally - when something that REALLY mattered surfaced. And... 3 cheers for the DPC!~ Great bunch of Gentlemen. Stepping back a bit - and taking a look at everything in perspective does indeed yield some interesting results.
There are those who will say... "oh yeah - there he goes again"... and shuffle off. (that's fine -- I will defend to the death your right to your opinion - however insipid I may perceive it to be.) And... there are those who will grasp the concept. I'm fine with both -- and wish you all well. In the end -- it's the project that matters, and this TeAm has gone WAY above and beyond any expectations that I had hoped for. The fine leadership of so many that have contributed to its success is testament to what the word "team" really means. Fabulous job guys! Absolutely fabulous.
