My name is Juno and I'm a junior industrial design major at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. My Equipment Design class is splitted into three groups: Marketing, Ergonomics and Structure. Of course, I'm in the marketing group which means the group is going to research on the design of the scooter. I know I have to include motorcycle as well because what we (marketing group) think is almost equivalent to scooter.

This survey has very common and some serious questions because we are assigned to design a new scooter and we hope your answers help us to boost our research and could also help us to design the best scooter possible. We also hope we can get at least ten participants. image

2. Sex
a. Male

3. Are you:
b. Employed

4. Have you ever owned or driven a scooter?
b. Driven

5. Have you ever owned or driven a motorcycle?
a. Owned
Section B (Scooter)
1. Have you ever puchased one? If so, why?
Nope.
2. What do you enjoy about riding experience?
Wind in your face, ease of use, light, quiet.
3. What do you not enjoy about the riding experience?
Low power, low speed, fine for sleepy towns with no traffic but terrible for highway, areas with traffic, and spirited riding.

Also people tend to look down on men riding scooters. In one sense I don't care what people think, but in another, well, everyone cares what people think.
4. Think of a scooter you've driven. If you could change anything about it, what would it be?
I dunno...more power without sacrificing light weight I guess. Maybe larger tires to allow for bumpier terrain without causing damage.

5. How important is extra storage space?
c. Not very

6. What conditions, if any, won't you ride in?
Ice, snow, very cold, moderately windy

7. Do you drive a scooter regularly (more than several times a year)?
b. No

8. What is your main destination?
Rent them on vacation overseas a few times.

9. Does more than one person routinely use the scooter?
No

10. What do you use the scooter for?
Recreation

11. How important is the ability to carry a passenger to you?
c. Not very

Section C - Motorcycle
1. Have you ever puchased one? If so, why?
Yes. Because they're a hoot to ride, get great gas mileage, are fun to ride, can park anywhere, are a blast to take around corners, satisfy my sense of adventure, and are fun to ride.
2. What do you enjoy about riding experience?
The freedom, leaning into corners, the instant power whenever I like it, the sensual growl of the engine, the low cost for insurance, gas, maintenance, and initial purchase.

3. What do you not enjoy about the riding experience?
When it gets cold or very windy, or when there are oil slicks, wet leaves, and diesel on the road, it gets worrisome.

4. Think of a motorcycle you've driven. If you could change anything about it, what would it be?
I really should have bought the ABS version. Also, lighter/lower center of gravity. Power's about right, but I wouldn't mind a little more.

5. How important is extra storage space?
b. Somewhat

6. What conditions, if any, won't you ride in?
Snow, ice, high winds, extreme cold (but I have winter gear and heated grips, so we're talking really cold).

7. Do you drive a motorcycle regularly (more than several times a year)?
a. Yes

8. What is your main destination?
Commuting to and from work. Occasional long-distance trips or mountain adventure

9. Does more than one person routinely use the motorcycle?
No

10. What do you use the scooter for?
The motorcycle is used for everything, including as a commuter, errand runner (unless something won't fit and can't be strapped to the back), adventure bike up in the mountains and off road, road tripper, and stress relief.

11. How important is the ability to carry a passenger to you?
b. Somewhat

1. B, utilitarian but a little small. Front angle is odd.
2. A, looks comfy and capable
3. A, I like the vintage utilitarian look but it might be a little small.
4.B, they tryin' to make this an off-road scooter?
5.D, looks like a toy, way too flashy for something that small.
6. C, looks comfy but I'm not diggin' the nose.
7. D, looks dinky and has weird angles.
8.D, looks like a toy, way too flashy for something that small.
9. C, like the vintage look but it's a little fruity.

Section C
1. Have you ever puchased one? If so, why?
I've purchased 2 for commuting and just because it's a different experience from driving. It's quicker, more fun and just looks a lot cooler than a car.

2. What do you enjoy about riding experience?
Freedom and just the difference between driving. It's a special treat, lit's like a convertible's freedom with the quickness of a super car and the involvement unparalleled by anything else.

3. What do you not enjoy about the riding experience?
Other cars on the road and the hazard they present.

4. Think of a motorcycle you've driven. If you could change anything about it, what would it be?
Better headlights, motorcycle headlights are notoriously weak and worthless compared to automotive headlights.

1: Yes. When I was a kid I thought motorcycles were the coolest things on Earth.

3: Traffic, and lamebrains in cars who can't see me for some reason.
4: My current bike could use a bit less restricted exhaust. The aftermarket has products to deal with this, but I'd rather if the bike came a little louder from the factory.
