An on-campus business idea, what would you want @ your school?

our entire campus has Wi-Fi.

This is a VERY small campus, so transportation is not a problem.

This is a full out proposal. Market research, business plans, gnatt charts, layout diagrams, etc.

late night food might be a good idea..

Not a new idea (it's been done to some extent): Robots that can deliver items to student's dorm rooms via a web site where they purchase the items. The robots are able to navigate the buildings themselves and can do deliveries 24/7.

it has to be new to this campus, so if your school have something unique, that would work.

the businee will be funded by the alumni association, so funding IS limited. It is a loan, that must be repaid one year after loan date.

24 hour cafe that is the bastard child of quiznos and 7-11.

Gives you the convenience market, its a good hangout, and is open 24 hours.. what more can you want?

Fry's

College kids are usually scrapped when it comes to buying parts for computers, as most places don't like shipping to PO boxen.

i updated. There are about 12,000 students TOTAL.

so anything we do would probably involve something that is not a franchise.

there is some empty space in the student center at my daughter's school and a hair cutter of some sort is one of the things that there seems to be interest in for that. students do get their hair cut.. long as it's priced competitively it ought to be popular. a "salon" might be a stretch. 🙂 a bank has also been mentioned.. sometimes an ATM just can't do what you need done.. but you already have a bank. late night food would be a popular choice too.. another complaint I hear a lot from people at various universities is not being able to get food (on the mealplan) when you're hungry.. I'm guessing that doesn't prove to be financially viable though.. else more places would have that.

how about a business that delivers gifts.. flowers, balloons, cookies.. that ought to be enough.. if they were tailored to student budgets (coffee cup bouquets and the like, not huge arrangements) and could deliver to the dorms..

How about a game store? You can sponsor tournaments and give a percentage of the money raised to charity, therefore making it easy to get both customers AND publicity.

I'm thinking chess, go, bridge, poker, etc, that kind of games rather than computer games - lower overhead.

Or, a cooking school with classes, demonstrations, free food samples, and so on. Get the local restaurants to send their chefs to teach. Cookbook authors do demos. Etc.

hair cutter seems to be a good choice i think. Maybe charge $8 per cut. But i would assume that most of the customer would end up being the male population. I don't think most female would get their precious hair "done" at a "barber shop"

we already have a gameroom that organizes alot of gaming events and tournaments. Cooking classes? i don't think many college students who bare 16 credit hours a semester would like to attend another class. Plus that would almost specifically target the female population, leave the male market untapped.

How about a data storage provider that permits them to retrieve their data and manage their data remotely? I was lucky to own my own domain when I was going to school because I could just upload my papers, etc. to my ftp and retrieve them later.
