Why do cops in movies from the 80s always have revolver style, '6 shooter' handguns whereas the bad guys have semi-auto handguns with 10 round clips?

cause they are real men, they don't need uzi's.
They can shoot a bad guy in the face from 50 yards away with a .357 magnum.

For many years a .38 revolver was the only weapon issued by many police departments

The prop department only issues revolvers to cop actors and semi-autos to bad guy actors. It's a SAG requirement.
