An issue with 'Generic USB Hub'.

Hello everyone.

Basically, my situation is this; I have had an internal 4 Port USB Hub just sitting around and has barley been used. So I decided to turn it into an external one (becuase I no longer needed an internal one - so I just put a case over it) becuase it just has one cable at the back with a USB 2.0 Connection.
Windows recognises it perfectly as a USB Hub as is seen here:

(I don't know why it lists so many usb hubs. I only have three usb 2.0 ports on my laptop and my 'external' usb hub plugs into one which has 4 usb 2.0 ports on it)

OK, now my issue is, some USB devices I plug in work, and some don't. For example, when I plug in my usb 2.0 mouse, it sometimes works fine, yet other times it doesn't work at all. My USB flash drive hasn't worked at all yet.
Here is a picture of the USB flash drive not working:

What could be causing this? An old driver?
Thanks for any help and sorry if this is in the wrong section.

Powered or none powered? It may need the +5V to work correctly, not all hubs will work in a none powered mode.

Sorry mate but does powered or none powered mean? There are no batteries or anything. You just plug it into a usb port and it's on.

No - and especially no with notebooks. An external hub requires an external power source. A laptop just doesn't have enough power to drive more than the built in USB ports.

Your problem is that you have tried to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Your external case needs an external power source to work properly.

Take a look sometime in any store - all hubs designed for use with notebooks come with a small power brick.

Hmmm, thanks for the reply, although I tried using the USB Hub with a desktop computer and stll had the same problem. If I plug in USB light it works. It seems as though they are getting power, just not functioning properly.
