Why do kids in Michigan need ipods?

I'm kind of wondering how it relates to education myself... I mean, if you're going to bash someone's ideas, at least explain the reasoning behind those ideas and attack that instead of dismissing them outright. While I'm sure it is a bad idea (throwing copious amounts of money at a problem that can't be solved with money), that editorial is pretty crappy.

LOL, same thing I was thinking. Could they just spend that "proposed" money on computers for the schools?

Why the hell would they need that? The vast majority of schools have computers that are more than sufficient for the needs to the students (though they may lack the necessary support staff).

Downloadable class lectures for your Ipod? You just drive up to school, plug your ipod into the computer mainframe, download the lectures then go back home and listen to them. Michigan doesn't have to pay teachers anymore.. just a couple companies to creature the downloaded lectures.. and Michigan makes billions$$$!!1oneone

:disgust: 😀

I wonder if Creative and MS will sue becaue they are not offering their products

Or the RIAA will step in, since people who can't afford an iPod likely won't be paying for iTunes music.

Good point.

Also on the table, and playing a more prominent role Thursday, were expensive new programs, including $100 million for investments in Michigan's downtowns and a $38-million proposal that would provide iPods or MP3 players for all Michigan students to use as learning tools. (link)

Since when (and how) are ipods used as a "learning tool"??

haha. great. i hate granholm. she has destroyed what was once a model state for economy and science. now we are known for unemployment and the mass exit of population. kinda wish i would have gone out of state for school. How the hell did we re-elect her?? oh ya, because one of the best business minds in the country ran against her... humph. stupid Michiganders.

Hahahahahaha!!!!!!! Ahhhhhhhahahahahahahaha!!!!!! ROFLx20

Well if you can't laugh at yourself. *shrug*

I'll move some day, I swear.

But they want a 9 cent/gallon gas tax plus a 50% increase in the cost of yearly vehicle registration...

Please relocate me! 🙁

When I lived in Michigan from 7th-8th grade, I brought one of those lecture recorders to school and the Vice Principal freaked out on me when he saw me sitting outside after school writing my notes from it.

In what sense, because you had something schools didn't allow you to have, because he thought it was a weapon?

As to the article, my gut reaction is to say "shens." I HOPE it's just a belated April 1st prank.

Granholm is a moron as are her minions. The city of detroit is corrupt through and through and until a Tsunami wipes it out, nothing will change. Factor in a decaying automotive industry and union members with poor financial skills and low education and you have the perfect receipe for disaster.

I'm in a union. I don't know how I ever figured out how to get this computer working. I mean, with my lack of education and all.

That probably wouldn't work either. Look at New Orleans.
