you would connect your car computer to the battery directly and Making A USB type Dongle that connects to the ignition of a car. and when your car is turned off it will automatically and safely shut down your car computer, and maybe have a UPS involved so that it is not using the cars battery when shutting down, and then turned back on when the ignition is turned on?

what do you think?
has it been done?
is there something better?
just a thought

um wtf.. install a laptop mount same as they have in Police cars alot easier and half the trouble..

Probably better off using a UPS connected to the computer using either USB or Serial... and then the UPS senses the power being turned off it can send a shutdown signal to the computer...
AFAIK, the car battery runs on 12 V and USB is 5 V, you'll have to use a down converter to make one directly aware of the other... the UPS solves this problem effortlessly...

i know, i wasnt getting into the schematics (sp?) of it, just the symantics, does a laptop mount work on desktops/SFFs?

does anyone here have a car computer?
what do you use?

Okay....
I have a laptop and a DC/AC converter.... not enough dough to build me a car computer....but then who whants to see a car computer in an escort...heh
