An interesting thought about religion....

Hmmmm read a golf magazine, they interviewed someone and the guy mentioned that he is from northern ireland, and he also mentioned something like: most of the wars are caused by religion..

This made me think, almost all of the wars that human race experienced is caused by religion. Examples: the crusade, the northern ireland war, the terrorism in the middle east (the reason why US invaded afghanistan and iraq), the moslem separatist movement in the philiphines, the persecution of jews, etc.

If there is no religion, would the world be a better place? Would we eliminate a potential source of conflict? If there is no religion, then atheists would also not exist..

This is not a flame bait guys, just my thoughts...

i really don't see how there could be no religion...people want to have a reason to exist, i believe that belief in religion would naturally occur no matter what. however, i do agree that almost every conflict is over religion in some way..

If everyone was rich, then no one would be truly "rich" because the term entails a certain portion of the population being worse off than you.

Religion exists regardless of whether we want it or not. And I certainly am not Christian/Jewish/Muslim, but it's unfair to say that religion is the cause of much strife; a lot of people use it as an excuse to exercise their power over others.

Religion has been around since before civilization. You can't just get rid of it. Anyways to say most wars were caused by religion is BS. Wars are started because of greed, the use of religion is just an excuse.

Just as guns don't kill people, religions don't start wars. People kill other people with guns and people use religion to start wars. If there were no religion, there would still be others reasons for people to kill one another.

Religion doesn't cause war. People just see differences in each other. Eliminate religion, and something else will take its place.

Wars are caused by things that people care about. People care about religion. So, there you go. A lot of conflict is caused by money, since people care about it.

Religion is a human cultural invention that has the effect of uniting large numbers of humanity towards a single goal, for better or worse.

pretty well said. i've always noted to people that religions starts wars because people care way too much about it. think of the flame wars on this board. but i suppose if it weren't religion, it would be something else.

duh, everything bad in this world is caused by religion (well maybe not everything) but it would be a much better place if it didn't exist.

I hate religion, it's useless.

People who want to kill you find reasons to do it. Being another religion is just about as good a reason as any other thing. If there wasnt religion, then they would find another reason to 'justify' killing you, be it skin color, hair length, language...

Its not religion that people believe in. It's a higher being. Religion is merely an institutionalization of this belief, and it is interpretted by people.

In the famous words of John Lennon :"...imagine if you can, imagine all the people, living lives in peace...", but, some one shot him.

I thought the civil war had to do with slavery..

Um....no. The civil war was about tariffs Lincoln only threw in slavery to keep Europe out of the conflict.
