An interesting fact that you may not know about fruit cocktail

It is illegal to sell canned fruit as fruit cocktail unless it has a certain percentage of pears, pineapple, peach, grapes, and cherries. If it is missing any of them or has a disproportionate percentage, it is illegal to sell it as fruit cocktail. That is why the kind you see with extra cherries will not be called fruit cocktail.

PDF containing the US gov's fruit cocktail regulation.

Thats good to know. Now I finally have something to talk about at the next bridge party.

The staring at each other with nothing to talk about was getting uncomfortable.

Sectors of pineapple: The length of the outside arc is not more than three-fourths inch but is more than three-eighths inch; the thickness is not more than one-half inch but is more than five-sixteenths inch; the length (measured along the radius from the inside arc to outside arc) is not more than 1-1/4 inches but is more than three-fourths inch.

It is nice that the government solved all major problems nearly 30 years ago and decided to work on fruit cocktail regulation that was sorely needed.

I want the bastards that charge 3X for a tiny little can of sliced olives to join the illegal fruit cocktail canners.

What's funny about that is Snopes never tells us how many words are in laws/regulations pertaining to the growing, distribution and sale of cabbage.
