In reality, certain sniper squads are best in certain situations, and certain snipers are better than others in certain situations. There is no overall "best" because once you attain this level of mastery you are for all intents and purposes a precise, lethal weapon of war.

Huh? What does that prove?

Doesn't prove anything besides that Rob Furlong holds the (publicly known) record for longest confirmed kill.

But the Wikipedia article does note that the effective range of the rifle was 600m greater than normal due to the unique environment, and it still took three shots.

One miss, one hit (on his bag) and one for a kill. At that range, despite the environment, it`s still an incredible shot. The round was just able to fly further, it wasn`t any easier to aim.

just seems a little odd. Usually using a .50 cal for very long distance or to take out armor, so reducing muzzle velocity with a silencer doesn't seem like the greatest idea.
