They showed the Russian womens (I should say girls, because none of them are over 18 probably) gymnastics team as they were competing and how they made some major mistakes and ended up winning a Silver medal, and most of the women on the team looked at it with disgust, and even took the medal off when it was placed around there neck or as they left the podium. Just makes me sick. Millions of girls would be happy to win a silver medal, and while they may have wanted gold, they treated the silver like garbage.

If we through one of those little teenieboppers into a pool and asked them to swim a lap, would the crowd cheer? :Q

It's not their fault. The ones to blame are the trainers for that team. It's like China... If they don't win first, they are practically brainwashed into thinking they are WORTHLESS. A society that would produce athletes like that is SERIOUSLY F***ED UP, but you can't blame the individuals.

On the other hand, I know someone who is like that on his own. He is an EXTREMELY talented potter, and one time, I saw him grab a teapot he had spent COUNTLESS hours on by the spout, raise it up over his head, and hurl it to the ground. His reason? "I can't accept failure." Even though there was NOTHING worng with it, and it was a beautiful work of art, his coicky ass decided it didn't meet the standards he had set for it, and to him, that made it WORTHLESS. I have no doubt he would turn down a silver medal if he ever competed in a sport.

Bloody hell people. There's surely no need to go calling them 'bitches' and 'hoes'. In my view it simply showed that they were extremely disappointed with themselves for not performing to the best of their ability and winning the gold. Their reaction was perhaps not in the spirit of the occasion, but it didn't affect anyone else.

Good point DesignDawg. That is true that those athletes are usually brainwashed, it really is sad.

Maybe it was not disgust because they thought they deserved gold but disgust because they felt they did not deserve anything because of their performance.

You don't do that kind of stuff on TV. You do that sh!t when you're out of the spotlight and in private with your other teammates. You don't show that kind of disrespect TO THE WHOLE WORLD.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's disrespecting anyone. I can understand where they're coming from. For some people, the Olympics are the only thing that matters. And while a silver is good, the ultimate goal is gold.

<< Their medal, they can do whatever they please with it >>

If I came thousands of miles to see the olympics, I come to say togetherness and good sportmanship and competition. I don't want to see girls taking off their medals in disgust. That just ain't right. If you didn't perform well enough to get a gold, you don't deserve it and be happy with your silver.

They?re showing extreme disappointment rather than disrespect. And in their defence, they're almost certainly not thinking straight, precisely because of their disappointment.

I have no reason to defend/attack them, but I genuinely believe you're being extremely harsh on these girls - what is their average age? 15? 16? And you're calling them bitches? You think that's fair?

They'll have to sell it to get money to keep training in that abandoned warehouse of theirs. :| They need to realize that 2nd best in the whole friggin world is pretty freakin good!

Ok, just to expand: I?m not saying what they did was right. In fact, it was the wrong, unsporting thing to do. I am however, saying that I understand why they did it and I don?t think you should look too badly upon them because of something they?ve done in a highly charges emotional state.

damn russians. think of all the gymnists who would die for a bronze, or die to be at the olympics at all. makes me sick.

sure, they can be disappointed in themselves, but making a public display like that is completely uncouth. they don't deserve any medals. isn't it the russian team who also really came down hard on a team mate who made a bad mistake?

You're living in a dream world if you think all the competitors "love" each other.

Who said anything about love? It's a great sight to see all of the countries put away their differences to compete under one large arena

The USA didn't even have the balls to show up to get their silver medals that one year in hockey/bball. Thats a disgrace to the world.

And these girls are brought up that way by their trainers - dont accept anything less than failure. If I were to devote my life to training people to win I would be pissed too (although I wouldnt be that disrespectful)
